Title: coin doors
Post by: SS427 on February 03, 2003, 02:46:56 pm
I have finished cutting out the pieces for my cabinet and have decided that I want a coin door.  I don't know squat about coin doors and making the needed connections.  I do recall coming across a tutorial somewhere, but can't seem to locate it now.  Does anybody know where that is?

Also, does anybody have advice on what type of coin door to get (brand, over/under type, others) and has anybody obtained the coin doors from ebay?  Any suggestions for other places (other than happs and wico)?  What do I need to look for when I get a coin door (pieces, parts, etc.)?

 ???thanks ???

I have the over/under style (check sig).

It actually started out as two coin doors from ebay.  Each had issues that the other fixed, so I combined them.  Stripped the paint and repainted.

As for connection, the credit switch are the same microswitched buttons use.
For lighting, that takes some creative thinking.  your power source is your computer, so you either have 12v or 5v.  5v being easiest to get externally.  there are 6v lamps that work well, just won;t be as bright because they aren;t getting full power.  Arcades used 3v I think.

Its really just a matter of asthetics whether you get an over/under style or the square midway style.

You'll want to make sure it comes complete with coin mechs so you don't have to chase them down later. Make sure it has both coin microswitches as well and you're all set. Optionally it could have a coin counter but thats not essential for your use.

I used 12v automotive light bulbs in my coin return buttons with the 12v coming off the PC. This kind of nice because you can tell if the PC is powered on by whether or not the coin lamps are lit.
