Title: The Venice Beach, California version of Super Punch-Out!! has been found
Post by: MaximRecoil on December 19, 2005, 04:14:32 pm
I mention this version of SPO that I played as a kid from time to time, never really expecting anyone to be familiar with it. Now, I have a 100% working SPO machine but it is the same common version that is in Mame. I would love to get ahold of the "Venice Beach version". I mentioned it again in an RGVAC thread because it sort of went along with the topic that was discussing machines we played as a kid, and I got this response:

A friend of mine has the Venice Beach version, so I'm guessing he has the 02
BAK boardset/chipset.

Cool.  Hope everything works out.

Let me know if once they are in MAME if you want me to burn you a set to put in your super punchout.

That would be pretty cool.

Yeah, I was assuming they were the same.  If you can, you may want to ask him for good close photos of the BAK board to see if there are any differences. Then if there is a difference you may be able to see how to make your BAK1 board into a BAK2 board.  Schematics would be ideal.
