I am utilizing an older Toshiba satellite laptop running a first gen. Pentium for my next Mame machine, and while testing some games out(mostly the classics--i.e. galaga, mappy, donkey kong), I get absolutely NO keyboard ghosting. All keyboard strokes are interpreted correctly. I thought that the fire button with galaga would have some lag, but it's flawless. I am thinking about hacking the keyboard for the controls. What's your thoughts on this option? Could I skip the ipac if the laptop keyboard is hackable? I only need a couple of inputs for a 1 player setup with 2 buttons. I think it might just work.

Other than the ghosting issue you should check if your keyboard can handle multiple simultaneous key presses.
There are keyboards that have a limit.
And if your checking turns ok, hack it. I'm using a keyhack too (standard keyboard though, currently in progress)
