Does anyone here have any pet birds? Specifically Cockatiels? My brother is getting one for x-mas, and I wan't to know how much noise to expect every night. His room is right nest to mine and I really enjoy sleep. Do they make much noise? Please say no

you should ask for a cat for xmas

I have a cockatiel. Males tend to be noisier than females, but they aren't loud birds. Sometimes in the morning they like to "sing" (scream their damn heads off) but they usually wake up when the owner wakes up.
I love my cockatiel though, just make sure your brother reads up on owning a bird before getting one. They can be a handful.

I think they tend to be a little noisier when you have more than one bird in the house. They chill out later in the evening, but do tend to make a little noise during the day. You get used to it.
Mine is pretty funny. He whistles notes in whatever order he feels like at the time. Sounds like he's making up a song as he goes along (and not very successfully :) )

Maybe you can teach it to whistle the Imperial March from Star Wars whenever your brother walks in the room..;)
Actually, my brother in law has one. The bird whistles the door bell, the microwave and other such objects...

My sister has one. She thought it was 'fairly quiet' until her neighbour told her that the thing would scream like a drowning kid for about an hour whenever she would take off. She had no idea.

Heh, mine did the Andy Griffith theme at one point. She's too lazy to try it anymore.
-
If it gets too loud, it obviously needs exercise. Just open the window and let it fly around a bit outside. The fresh air will tire it out, and it won't be so noisy. In fact, you may never hear from it again ;D

I have a Cockatiel, my fourth.

also covering the bird with a heavy pillow quiets them down too

If it makes too much noise, just hire Bosss7 to watch it for you when you go on vacation.

Here's one raised faithfully by Stingray.
And that's no guitar he's holding

Noisy enough to make you want to add it to the list of Fun things to put in a microwave (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=47273.0)

He sent me that picture as a proof for "That's-not-a-guitar-I'm-holding".
So it's up to him.
Still I don't think that specific pigeon would mind or object the test
