Hello,
I am begining initial plans for a new MAME cab, and I am trying to make it as optimal as possible. I plan on putting a 27" BilLabs multi-sync monitor into a Neo Candy 29 cab. Sorry if some of these questions are newbish, I did some searching but could not find anything confirmed. So here are some questions.
Since the monitor syncs to 31 Khz, then do I need an ArcadeVGA? Will games look better displayed on their native horizontal frequency? If I go that route, will I be able to display windows, etc. at 31 Khz? If not, is there any advantage to having a muli-sync? Does ArcadeVGA only display at 15 Khz? Also I have eard some ppl have had difficulty with a J-Pac, since this will be a dedicated computer cab, and wont need to keep it JAMMA. Would it be better to keep the JAMMA wiring with a J-PAC, or completely rewire everything with a I-Pac or Mini-Pac? In other words, would a dedicated wiring job have any advantages over JAMMA -> J-Pac wiring?
Any answers would be great, thanks.

I have a Betson multisync which is a similar monitor, so my responses will be based on using the Betson.
1st, the Betson hooks up using a 15pin VGA cable, so it would be anti-productive to try and go through the J-pac's video output through the Jamma harness.
The AVGA with the basic drivers only outputs at 15 Khz. However, when you install the TriSync utility from Ultimarc's site, the AVGA will then output all resolutions 640x480 and higher at 31 Khz making your Windows screens at 800x600 very useable. On the Betson, I am running Ultrastyle at 1024x768 with no flicker. The arcade games are running at their native resolutions at 15 Khz and look fantastic.
My vote would be to go with the AVGA. If you don't, there is no reason to spend the money on a Multisync. I would be tempted to re-wire the cab with an Ipac as well.
Just my 2 cents.
