OK, not really, but this is what happens you you tell a bunch of BYO types to build an electric go-kart with a 2'x2' wheelbase.
Thats me in the red helmet. My kart is ~100 lbs, + 160 lbs of me, powered by a 2hp electric motor from a floor polisher. Toss in a speed control from a forklift, leave off the brakes, and hilarity will ensue.
Video here. The second part, inside, was later that night - with alchohol fueled consequences. Be sure to turn the volume up for the closing comment.

Those are awesome. Where can I get an off-road 4x4 version? ;)
-S
-
thats some good stuff.
-
Heh Heh, I liked the sound track. Funny thing is,
a) we never saw YOU driving in the video around the race track unless
b) that was you near the end doing the faceplant off the ramp ;)
and finally
c) I wouldn't want to be the guy who parked his red truck in the race track. He must of gotten hit at least once...
Funny stuff..
-
No, that was an older video - I was actually standing in the middle taping. Watch carefully, and you can see me trip over the tripod as I try to follow the lead cart.
Heres one with me racing like a loon. Not as professionally done, but you do get to see my kart's secret weapon.

Mine tops out around 25 mph, which may not sound like much, but when your center of gravity is that high...
No trucks were damaged in the making of that video. Only pride.
-
Man, that second one was even funnier than the first one. Reminded me of a Bugs Bunny Road Runner cartoon with the smokescreen.
You were inspired by Spyhunter weren't you... :D
-
Ding!
Theres a rear-facing halogen light to blind followers, the smoke screen, but the others complained when I showed them the water spray (to simulate the oil slick), so that was removed.
I wanted to paint it to match, but ran out of time and was restricted to colors on hand.
-
Just went back and dug in the forum where I was posting progress reports, and found this snippet:
Since I had 3 switches on the wheel...
1st Spy-Hunter device: the ultra bright rear light to blind/confuse pursuers: check!
Ed McCarron
"I've never seen such bravery. Elf shot the food."
The bottom line was my sig at the time. Go figure.
Rear light...

More random construction pics.

Oh, and those wheelie wheels in the last pic??? Useless. I had the bruises on my nether regions to prove it.

where are the turtle shells?
-
Sweet, you built it entirely from scratch didn't you? Your stock just went way up on the respectometer. :)
-S
-
Heh. Yep, totally from scratch.
Wheels - Ebay
Motor - Ebay
Speed Controller - Ebay
Steel tube - local junkyard
Seat - some plywood, foam, and blue vinyl crap that was kicking around.
Steering wheel - cut out of 1/8" aluminum
Steering parts - cheated and bought those from a go kart place
Sprockets and chain - go kart place
Differential - surplus place
Batteries - surplus place
wire - junk pile at work
Misc crap - home depot.
total cost ~ $400 bucks
Building it at work during the bosses vacation week ~ priceless.
Hit the throttle hard and that motor pulls over 200 amps. With the wide slicks, theres 0 wheel spin. Lean forward enough and you can get up to 25 mph in a second or two.
I only try to build things that will limit the injuries to me. My wife has forbidden me to work on siege engines.

My wife has forbidden me to work on siege engines.
Yeah, they can be pretty unpredictable. When I have mine set up at a school for kids to see, I don't let anyone come within about 50 feet of it in any direction.

THATS AWESOME!!!

THATS AWESOME!!!
That my wife won't let me play with catapults? No, that kinda sucks.
A friend built a treb and has great fun lobbing items into his neighbors back yard. His halloween parties are truly parties to be remembered.
-
without the shells, those karts can do no destructions.
-
Its hard enough keeping my head above my arse in turns - without adding koopa shells to the mix.
-
The woman driver in the first clip is priceless.
This thread proves there is no limit to what a group of guys can do without adult supervision.

"This thread proves there is no limit to what a group of guys can do without adult supervision."
Theoretically, we are the adults. I fall into (as do most of the people here, I'm sure) the "I may grow old but I'll never grow up" category.
Heck, I'm 33, and still wake up early on Sat morn to watch cartoons. Only problem is, the cartoons suck now.

;D
BTW:
Homemade Mario Karts on one hand....
Homemade seige weapons on the other hand....
;DPut Your Hand Together! ;D <----EXACTLY the kind of idea that can flourish barring adult, I mean "grown up" supervision and interference.

I want a trebuchet. I have to acquire carpentry skills for this reason alone.
There are too many stray cats in my neighborhood. I want to move them, one at a time, to the next town over.

Y'know I have a bunch of 1/2"x1/2" stock laying around and a trebuchet might be a nice addition to my desk here at work. Any sites with plans for a "mini?"
-
I would think that if you got plans for a "maxi", and made them smaller, you would have plans for a "mini".

mental note: test seige weapon on CT....
-
Your projectile attacks will never pierce my asshat.
-
Forget the turtle shells, looks to me like all you need from that video is styrofoam squares.
-
You could build a raised track with trebuchets. Get eliminated, SPROING.
-
See, the problem with you guys is you are always coming up with ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- to make me spend my limited funds on. To cool Ed.

I like hidden and randomly triggered trebuches myself. Launching only on elimination smacks of logic and I for one am against it.
-
How, exactly, does one hide a treb? Doesn't the dangerous part typically lie between the uprights?
"Here, pay no attention to these two poles, or the 3000 lbs of weight directly in front of your face... Just step on that cleverly disguised sling..."

Put it behind a shrubbery
-
I CAN'T find a shrubbery. WOULDN'T an evergreen that WON'T die a better option? I mean ISN'T it. Even if you CAN'T cut it down with a herring. DON'T make me say NEEE!
-
Oh, great. These threads wander enough on their own. You had to go and give a direction...
EDit: Few seconds too late...

-
Whoa. I read through the post and then it got into mini trebuchets and I started searching around for them on the internet. So I decided to make a mini trebuchet out of popsicle sticks for a secret santa gift for tomorrow night.
But then I gave up.
-
is that baby upgradable to 150cc?
-
A 150cc trebuchet would kick ass.

I only know where you can buy the plans, dunno where you can get them for free.
http://www.rlt.com/trebuchet/plans/tabletop/
There's not a whole lot to it. You don't really need a lot of plans. You need two uprights and enough wood to brace them & keep them steady. You need a throwing arm & sling, and something for them to pivot on. Feel free to look at my site, I think there are enough pics of the build to give you a pretty good idea of how they go together.
