Title: Cables for GP-Wiz49's are now available.
Post by: RandyT on December 13, 2005, 02:19:59 am
Like the subject says, we now have wiring for the 49-ways available at the store.

The cables have proper locking and keyed connectors for the 49-ways.  Versions are available for both the "No-Solder" Eco and the MAX versions.

The MAX version comes pre-stripped with color coded connections and the Eco version has a fully wired 40-pin connector to "plug and go"

If the cable is ordered at the same time as the interface, we'll even install it for you if you tell us to at checkout time.

They are priced at $12.95 for either version.

I wish we could offer them at a lower price, but they take quite a bit of time to build and we had to purchase special (expensive) tools to do the high-quality crimps.

Looks like the MAX cable would also be handy for folks using the ECO.

You are correct.  The color key remains the same for the Eco as well, but one might need to strip a little more of the insulation if it is to be soldered.

YOU GOOBER!!!

What are the odds that you release this product just one day after I finished wiring up three GP Wiz's to my rotating panel? I had them for 9 months and just tackled them this past weekend after finally getting my artwork installed. How random is that?

Actually, I'm not upset. It wasn't as hard as I thought to do it with the floppy cable connector, what with the diagrams you provided, but it's nice to know that you now sell it as well. It's a good idea for those who just want a quicker solution. Great idea Randy.

YOU GOOBER!!!

 :D

Sorry, it's one of those things I've been meaning to do for a while and decided to make the investment in (both time and money.)  I literally posted them the same day the parts came and was able to make a half dozen of each for the shelf.

Hopefully it will help out those who have been sitting on the fence due to the somewhat intimidating wiring requirements of the 49-ways.

Since you're watching this thread, RandyT, what would be the best way to a) mod or b) have you mod a couple of VersaBall sticks to work with Wico bases?  I need them in translucent green.

Thanks

Sorry, no simple solutions for that one.

All the shafts are CNC'd parts that require a lot of setup and big up front money for the quantities.

Your best bet would be to have a local machinist modify the shafts for you after you tell him what you want.  Most of them won't have an awful lot of trouble with you handing them parts and saying "I want this  to fit into that  just like the original here".  A decent one will charge you less than $20 to modify something for you.

Dang, if this was out earlier, I would have bought an eco + cables for my second GPwiz49.  :-\

Wiring the GPwiz49 was a pain IMO.   I used the old floppy cable hack to a MAX GPwiz49, and didn't (still don't) like that there's no relation between the joystick pin numbering and the GPwiz49 pin numbering; I want to wire , which is not fun with flat cable weaving.  The Eco cable fixes that pet peeve of mine.

GREAT accessory, Randy!  If I buy another GPwiz49, I'll get a cable too. :D

I had so little luck with a floppy cable that I ended up hacking my LS-30 cable that came with my NOS LS-30 :(

Oh well. It works :D

I guess this thread has two topics now.  ;)  Can jcoleman buy just the green translucent balsl, without the shaft?  It might be easier to crack the original balls off of his Wico handles and have the machine shop cut the appropriate threads onto the Wico shaft, rather than try to mod the Versa-Ball shaft.  At least, that's what I always figured I'd try if I ever get around to doing a set.
