I finished today my PSX Pad hack.
I want to do a dedicated 1 player joystick controller to PSX2.
I have another controler with an I-Pac for the PC.
What layout should I use???
Warning: ---smurfy--- ASCII drawing!:
9 10
5 6 7 8
J
1 2 3 4
J=8-way Joystick
1= X
2= Square
3= Circle
4= Triangle
5=L1
6=L2
7=R1
8=R2
9=Select
10=Start

(when I can get in later... might post the link again...)
btw... my interface can be changed...
so... I can use the same stick for psx... or mame...

Here's what I suggest because first of all, I love fighting games, I play a bunch of other games, but this is THE BEST layout for fighting games so you don't have to reconfigure every single fighting game you play:
9 10
5 6 7 8
J
1 2 3 4
J=8-way Joystick
1= X
2= Circle
3= R1
4= R2
5=Square
6=Triangle
7=L1
8=L2
9=Select
10=Start
The reason for this layout, is it's like turning your psx button pad to the right 45 degrees, this is what you'd get, and if you put the Ls and Rs stretched out. This is also how the playstation arcade joysticks come if you buy one of those ones off of like gamestop or something. Plus if you get a dreamcast for games like Capcom vs SNK 2, Marvel vs Capcom 2, etc. this is how most convertors change the buttons.

Here is my layout:
5 6 7
J 3 4 8
2
1
I found this layout to be the most comfortable
for playing just about any style game. 1-4 is in
the Soul Calibur layout, 3-7 work with
Tekken/SF layout. I really like buttons 1,2 for thumb
and index finger for older Mame games. Start and
Select are above the cluster.
J=8-way Joystick
1= X
2= Square
3= Circle
4= Triangle
5=L1
6=L2
7=R1
8=R2
