Title: Act-Labs Gun doesn't like serial mice?
Post by: Chris on January 31, 2003, 10:46:33 am
Has anyone gotten the Act-Labs gun to coexist with a serial mouse or trackball?  When I use a PS/2 mouse, it works fine with the gun, but my serial trackball can't be found with the gun installed.  Once I disconnect the gun and reboot, I can see the serial trackball.  It's like Windows 98SE sees the USB mouse and doesn't even bother looking on the serial ports.

Act-Labs's FAQ claims that the gun will not interfere with a serial mouse.  Does anyone know any magic to make this work, or am I going to have to track down a PS/2 trackball or a Serial-USB converter?

Are you trying to run 3 mice? (the act labs gun is a mouse device). Every device you add uses resources. Depending on what other devices you have installed  your resources may already be allocated to something else.

If your just running the gun and the trackball then it should work but you might be lucky enough to have a found a trackball that won't co-exist with the gun at least in your computer with the combination of other devices that you have.

Right now, I just want the serial mouse and the gun.  The third PS/2 mouse was for testing, but if I could get all three working I could wedge a spinner in there, too, but that's not critical.  The trackball is critical, as I'm note sure I can find another 2-1/4 inch trackball with only a 3.5" square footprint.
