Since I've made the decision to go with a UAII (and Scott at Mameroom has been very helpful), I wanted to ask some questions around Coin Doors.
For starters, the UAII kit has an opening that is : 12-11/16" x 10-3/16" and fits Happ Controls coin doors.
I wasn't really too concerned about this part of it all, but the more I think about it, the more I like the notion to utilize a coin door and tokens to add to the whole "feel" for it all.
But, again, I'm not a wiring genius and am not even close to having a grasp around what is involved with all of this.
That said, Mameroom links to here (http://www.happcontrols.com/coindoors/40000800.htm), but I have no real loyalty to Happ (beyond giving ponyboy my business!) and was curious of some options that may work.
Does anyone have any insight here?
Thanks!

uh, for wiring from a computer based cabinet, you really only need to hook up two microswitches to the same place you'd hook up your coin buttons, and if you want to hook up the lights, you just steal the voltage from a molex connector in your computer. there is no wiring you can't handle in this situation, mostly if your going to build an arcade cabinet. as for a coin door, you can get one off ebay, but they don't cost much less than new and they ususally aren't perfect. just give ponyboy a ring.
also, why are you making an arcade cabinet if your worried about the money? mine has cost me over 1500 and it doesn't even work yet, although over winter break, i hope things will change.

The UAII kit uses a specific style happ player coin door.
-
IMO you should probably stick with the design as is, with the coin door recommended.

sorry, the reference to "no loyalty to happ" made me think you didn't want to pay huge prices for some metal and plastic. also, why change it to another door than specified? i do rather like the over-under style that i got, but when i was contemplating 4 players, the fat style of over-unders was my choice.
anyway...

that was actually an apology post, but sorry again. and as for the extra stuff that doesn't come with it, you don't need it for a home cab. that is for recording credits and easy replacement of another door. it should come with the appropriate mechs and other goodies already included, although it sounds like it doesn't come with a coin box, if that troubles you. you can get the fat over under door that comes with a coin box, but prices obviously rise.
anyway, i hope your not offended by this one too.

I'm more interested in a coin box for the overall effect. I'm doing quite a bit in my recroom and there's something to be said about having the whole show on this. It's an option to consider--even though it's a home machine.
Thanks, though, for the clarification and input. It's truly appreciated.

I got the 4 player version...
You can actually make your own coin box out of wood and just place it under the coin door mechs... it will give you the same "ker-plunk" effect you want.
I would do it that way now if I were to do it over... it is not worth the xtra cost for the bracket and box.

Okay, so with the above and the 2 player door identified by Mameroom, I should be good to go?
If so, very, very cool--and thanks!

uh, i'm not sure about those lightts...mine came with sockets and lights i think, so it should include that. as for buying the lights anyways, you can get them at any auto parts store so don't buy them from happs, cause i'm sure they are twice as expensive.

Roughy,
Mine came with sockets and lamps as well... only problem is the lamps are 14 volt rated. They are not so bright when hooked up to a 12 volt PC power supply. I changed them out for super bright leds and WOAH what a diff. I bought both red and blue... my cab is blue and black so the blue looked great.
