Title: Games to use analog joysticks
Post by: Lilwolf on December 08, 2005, 08:48:07 am
Ok, I was about to add this to another thread but decided not to hijack it.  Lots of people where saying that they would like someone to sell analog joysticks because Happs is so darn expensive..

but..

"As for the analog controls.  I have a flight stick and I don't really use it all that much.

I would LOVE a good ball top joystick for n64 emulation... But the happs 49ways actually work great for that.  Sure not enought for some games but great for Zelda and the such where you wnat to be able to walk fast or slow...

What games do people want analog controls for (emulation wise?).  "

I wouldn't mind one for PC games.

I can't really think of anything for MAME.

I think the main use would be for console emus.  Mario Kart?  I'd do that.  That game is still fun.

I guess for me it's a little more than just the 'analog' part of those sticks that I want.  I want two arcade quality flight or tank style joysticks with two triggers on each of them to be able to play games like assault and vindicators, even battlezone.  The way my panel is setup, it would also make Tron and Discs of Tron much more playable/accurate (I know they aren't analog games, but still...).  And lastly, I play a lot of Apple ][ and such games on MESS.  Just about all those all used analog joysticks.  Of course there are MAME games like paperboy, roadrunner, food fight etc that need analog or 49 way at least.

Off the top of my head, these can all play well with an analog stick:

(analog stick)
Afterburner
Thunderblade
Space Harrier
Star Wars Trilogy Arcade
Cyber Sled (used 4 !! - 2 analog sticks times two players)
Food Fight

(yoke)
Paperboy
Star Wars
The Empire Strikes Back
Return of The Jedi
Apache 3
Lock-On

(hall-effect)
I, Robot
Escape From The Planet Of The Robot Monsters
Road Runner

(console)
Dreamcast
N64
PSone
And as soon as PS2 and X-Box emulation hits the scene, there's gonna be a TON of stuff that uses at least one and often two analog sticks.

And any PC flightsim games.

I have a joke and a flight stick.  The question was an analog joystick itself.  And I think food fight and console emulation is the only real games worth it.

btw, anyone try food fight with dual 49ways?

Dual?  Food fight only had one stick.
