I would say you might get away with a PIII 800 MHZ.

Are you trying to buy a new pc?  You can get a lot of the older machines for very cheap, but still have some good speed to them.  Do you have a machine now?

I have a P3 1GHZ that is running Mame right now with windows XP. NBA JAM when played on that computer misses anywhere from 16-20 frames per second. When I run it on my P4 3.2GHZ I have ZERO skipped frames. I dont want to put the new computer in a cabinet, so Im looking to see what older computer system I have to buy to run that game with NO skiped frames (money is tight, so the less computer I can get away with, the better). My kids just love that game! Im using Mame version.99 with this. Lots of people tell me I should be able to run NBA JAM on my P3 with no skipped frames at all but again, it skips almost 20 frames. HELP!!! Thanks to everyone who responds! :)

Try rolling back your version of Mame.  .74 should make it playable
