I searched but did not find any threads on gameplay tips and tricks. Is anyone interested in discussing stuff like that? For instance, I cannot come within 5 seconds of qualifying in the hurdles in Track & Field. WTF? Or, why can't I get past the first map on Jumping Jack? And how the heck exactly do you play Mr. Do's Castle? Stuff like that. Stuff that isn't totally answered on KLOV or similar sites. I already posted a question about avoiding asteroids in Empire Strikes Back and I got one reply, so maybe everyone here is more into building cabs than playing them! :) Anyway I'm up for talking gameplay if anyone else is!
Eric.

I know that for Track and Field, you need to push the buttons faster. Your welcome
-
Your in the wrong forum.
If you're in Everything Else - you aren't building a cabinet. You aren't playing it either. You most likely have dedicated your life to the study of off topic discussions. You would have to leave here to do other stuff, and other stuff just can't compare. Or maybe it can. Meh. Either way.
-
Yeah I figured EE wasnt the right forum but I cant seem to figure out where else to put it. Re-post in other board, or will mods move it?
Eric.
-
you better re-post it because once it comes to EE it belongs to us....
bwahahahahahahaahhaa

Geez you guys are crazy in here...
Okay I am escaping to the safety of the "normal" forums!!!
:)
Eric.

bah... he'll be back
he came, he read, he posted....
we have trapped another one
bwahahahahahaha

I use the same strategy for every game. I move the controls until something good happens, then I try to do it again.

-
I press as many buttons as possible as fast as I can. sometimes kicking the kickplate helps too :police:
-
My score almost always gets better if I scream and curse as loudly as possible.
-S
-
ah yes the old F bomb strategy. I think that's on page 32 on how to win at pac-man 101
-
Game naked.

So, back to Track & Field... Is it better to hit the buttons alternately, or just mash as fast as you can.
In a nutshell, is it speed or rythym thats important???
(That theres an opening big enough to drive a truck through if I ever saw one...)

This one is too, but I leave the easy ones for Seph.

It ain't the stick, it's the motion.

So, back to Track & Field...
-
blaming the buttons also works for me
-
If you want to excel at T&F you need leaf-switch buttons.
-
wire up two buttons for each button

It also works as an alternate to the standard patterns, but only on the thunderbird and key screens.
What you need to do is get 2 dremels. Make a wheel similar to the optical wheels used for mouse hacks, only with the "spokes" a bit farther apart. You'll have to experiment with the spacing. Throw them in the dremel, tighten everything up, and plug 'em both in.
You MAY have to add another outlet just inside your coin door, but that's just one of those gameplay enhancements that's more of a personal decision. You could always just continue to fail. It's worked for subzero and Floyd10 thus far. Your mileage may vary ;D
-
I just remembered this other tip. It's similar to the last one, but not as much work, more "Stingray-like" ;)
You'll need a 1/2 inch drill and 2 3" hammer drill bits. The flutes are spaced far enough apart that the button will just fit between them. Running the drill will get you several thousand button presses per minute, depending on the rpm's of your drill.
I've got more ideas for the other games, but let me know how these work for Track & Field ;D
-
to avoid the asteroids in asteroids you have to shoot them
-
to avoid the asteroids in asteroids you have to shoot them
...Or don't play at all. Guaranteed way to not get hit by an asteroid.
-
to avoid the asteroids in asteroids you have to shoot them
Spreading Preparation H all across your screen makes them smaller and easier to avoid. ;D
-
In Pacman I find that if i move around the maze and avoid getting killed by the ghosts I almost always win.
Also in games like Raiden and 1942, if I fly up the screen and kill everything without getting hit by enemy bullets and planes then i quite often have success.
-
Secret to Asteroids: spin one way around in the center and hold the fire button.
-
also on Super Mario Bros. when you eachthe end of the level you find that the princess is in another castle
-
Cheat mode!! ;D
Every games a winner....
-
alsoin order too truely win at any driving game such as pole position. it is recomended to have several beers prior to inserting coin........

Yayyy I found the one place where my posts are actually answered! The EE forum! All the responses are completely off-topic and totally insane, but hey at least I am getting replies! :)

I told you all he'd be back.
what did I tell you guys...
he has been lured to the darkside of the BYOAC boards where post counts are in suspended animation.

Here is how I cheated when playing Track & Field back in the day.
The trick was to take a 6 inch ruler with you to the arcade. A comb also worked in a pinch.
With one hand, (I used my left hand) place your pointer finger between the 2 run buttons. Then rest the ruler over your pointer finger so that it also rested on both buttons. Then apply pressure on top of the ruler with the rest of your fingers so that the ruler pressed hard on left run button. Then, when it was time to run, just use your right hand to press the right hand button with the ruler hovering over it. The ruler will snap back and automatically hit the left button for you. You can hit max speed every time.

Once you start down the EE path, forever will it dominate your destiny.

That ruler idea is friggin awesome. We need a thread for how to cheat at all the classics. An obvious one would be the Galaga no-shoot bug, which by the way I've never gotten to work.

THATS how that worked??? Never could figure out what to do with the d@mn comb.

You need to use the 3 or 4 finger technique to get top scores
That applies on SO many levels.

Another Track and Field idea is to remap the buttons to the joystick left and right. If you have a Happ's joystick, they are very sproingy so you can just flip it to the left (or right) and let it sproing back. This sends you into almost immediate max speed.
Remember, sproing = good

in Donkey Kong when you get to where the Elevator levels start to get difficult get to the top level where the jumpy things are bouncing over your head. once the clock hits about 5700 go for it. this doesn't work all the time, but sometimes it does and it's the best way I've found to get further.
A good way to practice it is get to one of those harder levels, then turn on infinate lives in the cheats. of course, never end the game before getting out of it..thus ensuring that this cheat doesn't affect your high score. ;)

There is a level in DK that has elevators? WOW! I just assumed that you were supposed to die on the first level. ;D

Yeah, when you stand around that burning barrel drinking Mad Dog out of a paper bag telling incoherent stories! I thought I was the only person who never got that game!
-
I never in my life saw the elevator level in DK until MAME and I pumped 100 "quarters" into the game to finally learn to get that far. Now I can get there but can't pass it. I suppose I could cheat, but I'd rather spend my life swearing at the game and trying trying trying to figure it out. That way when I am 82 years old and playing DK on my virtual reality headset goggles and I finally clear the level I will die from an excitement-induced heart attack. Good times!
Eric.

This is my 53rd post to BYOAC. You weirdos with 6,000+ posts, I don't know how you do it.
Eric.

We do like this.
Now do it 5,999 more times ;D
-
Oh, and when you see some guy posting HIS 53rd post, you'll be able to tell him how you reached 5,000....and then you'll remember this post and you'll curse the day you started posting in EE. Then you'll try to sucker someone else in so you aren't the only one. Welcome, sucker ;) ;D

I have spent approx. 37d 6h 39m just this year here in BYOAC and 85% of that time has been in EE

Even if it takes you 10 seconds create a post (including thinking and typing time), if you have 6,000 posts that comes out to well over 16 hours of non-stop posting time. Since each post more likely takes 30 seconds to a minute, it's actually more like nearly 100 hours. Wow. Such dedication!
Eric.

You also have to factor in if you are drunk, and if you have attended the 'Seph school of posting.'

In reality this statement is quite depressing. I suppose that I should look at the bright side though, I could be posting in a forum about knitting :-\

Think about it though. You wouldn't have to hide your purse with your Midol and Tampax anymore, and you wouldn't have to bite your tongue whenever someone says "Cookin' and cleanin'? That thar's wimmins werk!"
