I'm having a bit of trouble with gmail since I installed my wireless router. I can recieve, but I can't send new messages. I don't know what's going on, it just get's hung up at the message screen and "sending" is at the top right corner...and it just sits there. Is there a setting that could be messing with my outgoing e-mails?
Thanks

Posting a gmail message should work the same way as posting a message on this board as far as your router is concerned
-
Yeah... what he said. I have a wireless router, no problems at all with Gmail.
-
The only time I've seen the "sending" icon for long periods of time is when I've attached a file that's pretty large.
-
What browser do you use? What router do you have? Do you run a software firewall like Zonealarm or windows firewall?
-
I run zonealarm, use Mozilla, the router is a netgear something or other (a friend gave it to me). I turned off e-mail protection for zonealarm, didn't help though.
-
You can surf the internet as normal and such while wireless, right?
Does the wireless router also have ethernet? (IE not a dedicated wireless AP)
If so can you try wired through that router?
-
I can surf the net and post on forums but I can't get e-mails to send. They sometimes work, but it's very inconsistent.
The router is hardwired, it goes from the modem to the router, into my ethernet card.
I have a problem though, I really need to contact Scott and MameRoom and can't e-mail him regarding payment and it's decently urgent. Should I try to set up a new e-mail account somewhere? I'm guessing this isn't a common problem.
Thanks for the help.
-
Oh....if that's all, your router is doing you a favor. I can't imagine anyone actually wanting to contact that guy.
-
Well, you can temporarily hook the computer directly to the cable modem if it is that important.
-
So it is the router that's the problem?
-
some routers are hopeless for certain programs. try seeing if you can setup a dmz or anything. i tried for a month with tech support on my wgt624 netgear family router, but i had to shove it in the closet and use a cheaper belkin that didn't have that crazy firewall problem.
-
I unplugged it and e-mail works fine now. By the by, is Scott a jerk or are you guys just ragging on him? I don't want to buy from somebody disliked in the BYOAC community, he may route a turd into my control panel or something.
-
Mebbe shmokes was thinking of the ass hat who sells Virtual Music Jukebox. That's at mameroom too, right? I dunno what the guy's name is who sells VMJ, but on his forums, I've constantly seen him apologizing for problems and he referenced some guy named Scott, so mebbe that IS the same bunch. That software is run by an ass hat who's made enough of a stink to earn his piss-poor reputation, IMO.
If shmokes was referring to Scott, you'll need his comments

Retroblast rated his service pretty high up there. I hope it's not the same Scott, the Scott I've been talking to is a pretty cool guy.

Heh, well, we'll see how things are going to go.

I unplugged it
You meant you plugged your computer directly into the cable modem or just unplugged the router?
-
Direct from modem.

Figure out how to do a factory reset on your router. There's probably a reset buttong. You will either have to hold it while powering off, hold it while powering on, hold it 3 seconds while it is off.
Then check for firmware updates.
