Just went to Arcade World in Saint Louis today. Nice, small shop. Looked around asked a few questions. Here are a few things of note;
1. Small shop
2. Moderately priced arcade, pinball, cherry machines, etc.
3. They sell individual parts.. happ stuff.
4. they sell monitors and do repairs on them.
5. Took some time to talk to me... told them about BYOAC, they said feel free to drop in.
Anyway, I've been to a few arcade shops, this seemed like a nice walk-in shop for parts if you're in the St. Louis area.

Oh, and they have a website, too.

Damnit get back to Kansas City.. you cant defect to St. LOUISE

You know it's funny, I never set foot in St. Louis until I was 20, I have still never visited the Arch. I didn't consider St. Louis part of Missouri until I married one of it's citizens.
Since the little missus is from here, my life is a lot easier if I let her live near her family.
Everybody keeps asking if I'm glad to be home.. I'm like, "I ain't home... I'm not from here" :D
Anyway, I like my house, and the area that I live in, if the Missus's family didn't live here, I'd probably still be in Huntington Beach, FWIW. Missouri is a beautiful place, but I can do without the weather.

Oh, and one nice thing that St. Louis has on Kansas City... when I tell people on the coasts where i live, they don't say, Hey, How do you like living in Kansas?
-
that's cool. I didn't know anyone else really hung out here...except for paige.... from stl. I mean..fine you're not from here...but I found out about arcade world llc a week or so ago, but haven't gone out there yet. cool that someone else could check it out first.

I'm from here enough. :D It's my home now, and I have no complaints. All the hills around here remind me of the Ozarks... where my "people" are from. I know there are a few more people from around here on the boards. I dont' recall who (except for paige.) I know there are a few people from my college town... Springfield as well.
Anyway, I was riding in the passenger seat a few days ago, which is pretty rare, and was stairing aimlessly out of the car... I mumbled "arca...de..... wor...ld.." my eyes snapped open and i said "what the ****?!?" So I checked it out the next day. Its only a few miles from my house. I asked them how long they'd been around and they said 2 months. I've been busy so that explains why I've never noticed it before. My father-in-law and I are going to maybe go buy a pin from there in the next few days, so I'll let you know how that goes. They have a 30 day warranty (on their EM pins) with in-home repair if anything goes wrong, so that's nice. And they deliver. Don't know if there is an extra charge.
They had a few nice machines in there... a donkey kong jr upright (which I was drooling over).. great shape and great price if you wanted a dedicated one without going to the auctions ($1395) Also a nice Q-Bert cocktail. A little beat up, but it looked OK. It wasn't on, I can only assume it works. There were a few assorted other machines of varying degrees of coolness. One lame MAME box complete with LAME

I've got dibs on Springfield :)
Missouri is starting to get a few of these shops. Eldorado Games is in Mt. Vernon, and there is a little shop in Joplin that does EBAY sales primarily. Errrr, can't remember their name but I just bought a beater converted Joust from Stefan in Joplin. Of course we also have 1984 arcade here in town, and now your find a shop in St. Louis. KC has an operator base, but I don't know of any storefront type shops.
Anyway...
Ummm, Hi.
-
Nice info - I was in StLouis today but will look for this shop next time Im there. I live in MtVernon Illinois - about 80 miles away.
-
I'm up in Springfield, IL. I'm down in STL about 6-8 times a year for Rams games. Might have to allocate a little extra time one of the times down there to hunt this place down. Is it close to any of the boats?
-
Yeah. St. Charles has some Boats. Probably less than 5 miles from the Arcade World.
-
For the record...
I went to school in Spfd, MO and now live in St. Louis as well. I'm a transplant, moved here a few years back (2000). Sounds like we might have a 'lue crew going here.
-
is this the shop thats over by the movie theater? I have drivenby a couple of times might have to stop now..
-
Yeah. Not amazing or anything in itself. Just seemed like a nice place, nice guy runnin the shop. Might be a good local place to pick up parts.

While we have the attention of the Missouri folks:

December 30th meetup at 1984 Arcade.

Feeling the Kansas City love... Nobody, and I mean NOBODY does better BBQ than us!
-
No kiddin. I lived in California for the last 7 years... Had to make my own barbecue, cuz those guys had no idea how to do it.
-
I'd hate for this to get away and not post the obligatory I'm from St. Louis message.
Where's Paige in all this.....?
-
well, i just joined the forum today, and I'm happy to see there's a solid contingent of St. Louis people. I'm a transplant from KC, but I've lived here about 7.5 years, and def. consider it home now. Great town...
cheers

I stopped in that place the other day too. Its in St Charles. Talked to the guys there and I think they recalled the BYOAC reference. I took some moblephone pics of the place:
-
Cool bowling things. They also had a bubble soccer, and an air hockey table
-
That lower cocktail is a mame thing I think.
-
Everything was working, cool store. They can order stuff, keep an eye out for stuff for you, fix things.
-
I'm from St. Louis as well. I guess I'll have to go check out this shop.
-
Sucks they had to close I went a few times
friend of mine at last super auctions told me they closed down so I emailed one of the partners and he verified they closed the doors and web site.
-
Yeah, I live near it, and it's been closed for months. Bummer. 'S funny, because early on when I talked to them, they sure seemed to think they had it all figured out.
-
Suck, I see this thread only after the darn place has closed.
First the Coin-op Museum (http://www.coinop.org/features/coinopmuseum/) closes, and now this place?
Guess there isn't a ton of money to make on this with a brick-and-mortar shop.
Seems there are quite a few St. Louis area folk, sometime we should have a meetup somewhere.
-
I agree with Bleemus. I didn't know about this place either. Shame it's closed!
Bleemus and I went to an overpriced store somewhere off of 270 and Lindbergh. They had a small selection in the storefront. They make their money overcharging people who are wanting the nostalgic feeling of their youth.
I agree with a meetup - that sounds fun. B.Y.O.A.
-
Columbia MO in the house. Not to far away.
