Found on Craig's List for $20. Works, needs a transformer for the lights and could use a new frame. Surprisingly addictive.

What is the difference between a Pachinko and a Bagatelle?

What is the difference between a Pachinko and a Bagatelle?
Sadly, I have no clue?

That's so cool! I love those old style pachinkos that don't have all the LCDs and nutty stuff. That's something I've been actively looking for locally for a couple years now. One of these days one will come up.

I like it too. Even as just a wall hanging it's cool. Go to the store and buy a "game room" sign and it's $40.
Nice buy!

I want a giant Plinko like on The Price is Right.

You must have a massive game room! ;)

We had one of those when I was a kid. I have no idea what happened to it, but it's gone.

How do you lose a 2 story Plinko?
-
Just finished cleaning one up myself and the balls arrived yesterday. Took probably 10 hours of polishing and cleaning.
I got two of them off craigslist for $35 each, both in very good shape. I'll post a pic later.

Nice. I've been eyeing the eBay ones for awhile now, but those get far too pricey for me.
What sucks is that I'm in driving distance of the seller, but they pretty much refuse to do local pickup. Though I have to admit, I've not bought, won, and tried to haggle that issue with them.
Either way, congrats on the new machine!

Are you polanning on mounting it to a wall, putting it on the floor (for the little one), keeping it mobile, putting it on a table, what?
Mine doesn't have the back half of the case so it's a little wobbly. I can build one, but even with the back on there it's not sturdy enough to have around my kid without supervision.
Advice?

A pachinko is sort of a vertical bagatelle, plus the jackpots are holes, allowing continuous play (whereas with a bagatelle you have to stop and remove the winning shots.
Very similar in design, though, and I'm pretty certain that Pachinko is actually based on bagatelle boards that US soldiers brought over to Japan. There is a great video explaining all of this called "Pleasure Machines, the History of Pinball" available over on the GameRoom magazine web site:

The next GameRoom drawing on RetroBlast will be for one of these videos, btw!
Forgot to mention: I've got a Pachinko as well (same Nishijin type as James), with a great stand:

Something similar to what Kevin has (above) I think. I will have it in a fixed place either in its own cabinet or affixed to the wall. Same for me, I have a toddler so it needs to be sturdy and protected. Luckily she is very good about not eating things anymore so the pachinko balls are not really a worry. (Though she might whip them at the cat).

Just keep an eye out on eBay. I've seen several old styles for sale in OKC. If I run across one, I'll drop you a line. My father has both an old style and new style with LCD. We can't get the new one to work. What we are looking for a Bingo Pinball machine. My dad used to play one a ton when he was a kid. Unfortunately they seem to be collectors items and are not very affordable.

I had two of them for a long time. I was sick and tired of tripping over them and moving them around and I eventually put them out in front of the dumpster with a sign labeled "free". Someone picked them up (I saw him do so) about an hour later and took them in his apartment.
It never felt so good to get rid of something. ;D
