Got to go out with dad to the store when the tv went on the blink with a bag full of parts, looking for one of these monstrosities? I seem to recall a few times since the tv AND his guitar amp was full of them:

Wow, I haven't seen one of those in years. My dad still has an old tubed Lowery organ. I fixed it a couple of years ago. There is a place about 10 minutes from me that caters to audiophiles and they still have a selection of tubes. They're expensive now, though!

For those of you guys looking for some good amp tubes check out www.eurotubes.com
Good prices, and Bob is the man when it comes to picking out the right tube.
We have an individual tube tester where I work (hardware store) but nothing that cool. I wonder if they still make those.

I always saw them in the loacl hardware stores, but can't remember ever seeing one in use. My father was highly phobic of any and all things technological, so I got to see an array of TV repairmen instead.

We went to one that looked like a big bullseye, with socket holes on the board and I think it would light up if the tube was 'good'.

I think I've seen that type. Been too long ago to say for sure if that's a real memory or one conjured up my a mix of nyquil and oregano.
