Title: 2 Lightguns Soooo Close
Post by: neomatrix on December 02, 2005, 10:46:01 am
I am running Win XP Sp2, latest MAME and trying to get 2 Act-Labs TV Out USB Lightguns to work. Installed Toubleshooter and CPNMouse drivers for Dual mice.
Changed MAME.INI to Lightgun_1 and Dual Lightgun_1.
Both Guns work as mice in Windows
Tried House of the Dead 2... 2nd gun trigger registers as Pause game. In Mame Police Trainer... 2nd gun moves the 2nd cusor with trigger press but no shot is registered in the game.
Any help would be appreciated

I am interested to find out if you got any emails or any other information that may have solved your problem.

Are things working now?  If so, how did you do it?

I have this working under noname mame with the dual mice option.  Unfortunately I'm running an old version (0.86)  to do this.  It has a "-multimousexp" command line option that lets you map multiple mice (lightguns) properly including the buttons.

I have not yet found a good version of current MAME to support both lightguns, so I just run both versions of MAME (new MAME 0.101 and also noname MAME 0.86) in separate directories and have them on two separate menus under MAMEWAH.  I use the old version for dual-lightgun games and the newer version for most of my other games.

I too have tried everything under the sun that has been discussed in the forums.

I'm using dual ACT-Labs USB Tv-Out lightguns.

I've tried the Troubleshooter
I've tried the dual mouse drivers

The closest I've come is that the second lightgun either moves the cursor with the second gun switch set to gun#2
OR
If the second gun switch is set to gun#1 then both gun 1 and 2 work but all the hits (and hence score) go under player 1.

So while 2 people can have fun blasting at zombies in Area51 only player 1 looks like they're doing great while player 2 always has 0% hits.
(not so fun for player 2)

This has been the same all through the different versions of Mame32 for me (I've currently stalled at .98)

Anybody having luck......please post your fix!

Please!

(thanks in advance)

Is there software to remap the moude buttons? I believe that is all I need to do.

hmmmm.....

I suppose I could find what buttons the guns were sending on their trigger activations.  (using one of the many keyboard utilities that float around for Mame).

Then I could remap Player2 fire to the appropriate button within Mame.

I'll try this later and tell you.

Thanks for the suggestion.

If you run noname MAME or analog MAME+ they both have command line options that allow mapping of multiple mice including separate mapping of the buttons.  I've had both versions working with dual Act labs lightguns.

Unfortunately they are not fully up to date.

Some people report you can use Advance Mame, but I have not tried it yet.

So what you're saying is I should setup my MameWah with regular Mame for all my games (except light guns)

and have a another emulator listing for AnalogMame+ for just my lightguns.

I supposed it could be worse.
How is noname Mame or AnalagMame+ for setup?  As easy as Mame32?

Maybe I'll give that a shot too then.

That's how I'm doing it at the moment.   I'm hoping we get a new version of noname soon, but not so for the moment.

NONAME and ANALOGMAME are both command line versions (like command line MAME, but not like MAME 32).  You need to run noname with the "-multimousexp" command line option, and you need a frontend like MAMEWAH to manage your lists and kick off the DOS versions.

Other than that, you need to make sure that the lightguns are the only USB mouse devices (if you want them mapped to device 0, 1) and then go into the game when running to remap any buttons as needed.  Noname will recognize the difference between "mouse 0, button 1" and "mouse 1, button 1" for example.
