Title: Noob alert! HELLLLLLOO!
Post by: spuddybuddy on December 02, 2005, 06:38:46 am
Yes I am new, but Ive been looking into making a cab for awhile now. I know I will have tons of questions but heres one.

What is Jamma? Are those cards used in original arcade games? Do you use them for dedicated cabs?

My first cab will probably be a MAME, then if that one works out I want to start building replicas of older cabs.

Thanks.

Build the cabinet first, then go to the EE forum.

In the old days, game boards used a variety of different connectors, in 1987 or so, the JAMMA standard was established so that all games could be interchangeable between cabinets.

You'll also see the term JAMMA+ a lot. The Jamma standard only allows for 3 buttons for 2 players. Games like street fighter II use a JAMMA connector, but need additional wiring for the extra buttons 9which connect directly to the game board in most cases). 4-player games like Ninja Turtles are another common example of JAMMA+.

Welcome Spud!

One tip:  Search the forum thoroughly before asking your questions/queries.  Most of the answers are already on this excellent forum.

Some of the troops just love sarcastic chastising!  :)

Enjoy!!

Welcome,
You will find that most here are friendly and helpfull. I have gained much wisdom from this board yet, still, there are many among us that will tempt you to join the dark side of gaming. Only a strong will and strick regiments of nipple mutilation will keep you pure and on path. I recamend a quality battery charger and a strong will to complete what you start.

Never mind, do what you will. Any one know of a good shrink in the boondocks area? I need help. (No serious), I cant get this clamp off my nipple.
