Title: FS: Modded X-box, pre-loaded with lots of stuff
Post by: lseelba on December 01, 2005, 06:07:30 pm
I just modded a 1.6 Xbox with the Ndure exploit. Comes with one S-type controller, AV cable, power cord, box, manuals. I'm asking $150 plus actual shipping (PM me zip code for quote).

I preloaded it with all my favorite programs:

* UnleashX dashboard - includes game save downloading, custom skins, and ripping games from xbox discs.
* Xbox Media Center - plays almost any type of audio and video files, including DVD's without buying a dongle. Play online games without a Live account with Xlink Kai. Loaded with CNN streamer so you can watch the news from your xbox.
* Final Burn Alpha XXX - emulator to play all your favorite CPS1, CPS2, and NeoGeo arcade games. Would play MvC, SFA3, Super Turbo, Garou: MOTW, all King of Fighters, etc. Of course you have to own the arcade boards to legally use the roms.
* xSNES9x - emulator to play all SNES roms. Same disclaimer as above.
* DVD-X2 - an alternate DVD player if you don't like the XBMC version.

The hard drive is stock, but it still has over 3 gb space free, so you can rip a few games, load it up with ROMs, video, music, or whatever.

I set it up with dual-boot. If you power it up with the eject button, it boots to a Live safe Microsoft dashboard. If you power it up with the on button, it boots to the modded UnleashX dashboard. If it is powered up to a modded state, it will block access to Live so you won't get banned. You can also turn it on with a game disc in the drive and it will boot directly to the game, bypassing the mod.

I highly recommend buying the game Splinter Cell (the first one) to get full administrative access to the mod. It is not necessary but it is good to have. Splinter Cell costs $7 at EB Games.

Ummmmmm

You are selling a soft modded Xbox?

...and it only has stock hard drive?

...and your asking price is the same as that of a new system?

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight...

What is odd about buying a used system (that is stock), for the price of a new one + shipping?

I guess nothing, if you like wasting money. :P

I thought it was a cruddy deal, and pointed it out.

My bad.

I will be sure to keep my keys shut next time around, as you make a good point...

If I am not buying it, then I am not the one losing any money, so really why should I give a flyin flock...

Lesson learned.

Happy selling.
Happy buying.

That's not how I personally meant it.. I wasn't really ragging on you or anything.

I just don't see how it's a big deal to charge a few bucks to softmod an xbox and set it up.  He put time into it and got it working correctly, and he's charging pretty much the same price as if you went and grabbed a used xbox at EB

Yeah, my last reply was toward SNAAKE specifically.

As for the initial complaint I had...

$150 is the cost of a new Xbox. I can understand wanting to make some money on having modded it, but it is only a soft mod, it is still the stock hard drive, and it was done with an installer disc.

Soft modding takes all of a couple minutes to begin with, and especially so with an installer disc doing the work for you.

Granted I was a little cold in my posting, but it really did seem like a rather cruddy deal. I have certainly seen worse deals though, and I am sure there are some out there that have no experience modding at all. I guess they might find value in this.

I just didn't think the BYOAC community would actually have very many of those kind of people. ;)

Haha.  Thanks for ruining my thread.  Like it was already pointed out, I'm not charging an exorbitant amount.  Fact is, this has all the functionality of a chipped system, with NONE of the cost of the chip.  Seems like a win-win situation to me.

If people want to soft-mod their own box, feel free.  Heck I'll even help.  But after you factor in all the time and money spent buying a modder's cable, a memory stick that is compatible, buying one of the moddable games, figuring out how to successfully get the saves onto your box, installing the mod, getting all the emulators and XBMC up and running, you'll find you haven't saved any money off the price I was offering.

And if you think you can just install a softmod off an installer disc you are an idiot.  How are you going to get an unmodded system to read an unsigned burned installer disc?  ::)

Usual places..

One i used was the guy who "taught" me xbox modding.. I personally have no idea anymore where to find the images for em, i went back old school using 007 and doing everything Via FTP.. which still takes like 15 min.. *shrug

So what.. Its a working xbox, premodded, ready to play backups.. seems fair..

Like I said...

It seemed like a crappy deal to me.

To me it seemed no different than selling a stock dreamcast as able to play backups. Well yeah... No kidding... THEY ALL DO THAT! Same goes for a soft modded Xbox.

If it had a chip in it, then I'd see some extra value. If the stock hard drive had been replaced, then I'd see some extra value.

When talking a soft modded STOCK system, if you are paying the price of a NEW system, then it just seems odd to not just  buy a new one, but obviously I was mistaken in what the value of a soft modded stock Xbox is.

Sorry for ruining the thread.

I thought I was helping out fellow BYOACers in pointing out a crappy deal, but it seems I was the only one that thought that way, and instead I ruined a good sales thread for a fellow BYOACer.

I guess as pointed out earlier, I will just have to learn to keep my keys quiet about such things.

Considering people offer me 50+ usd constantly to softmod their xbox without adding a bigger HD, its kinda fair..

Not everyone has access to the tools to mod.. sure, a install disk.. but does everyone have a dvd burner? the "in" with where to get it? or if you go old school, how many people have an action replay? not many..

Well, you don't need a DVD burner, since a CD-RW will work just fine. :P

Either way though...

I clearly missed the mark on the items value, and to the seller, I apologize.

Yes, you can run a softmod off an installer disk.. done it, takes 10 min..  ;)

(snip)

So what..  Its a working xbox, premodded, ready to play backups.. seems fair..

This is new to me.  I've been using the old school "Action Replay" method (though without an Action Replay, but using their program to get the saves on a memory stick).  How does the unmodded xbox boot the burned disc?  I thought there were protections from that.

Also I'm serious about helping people on these board mod their boxes.  I helped a guy in England yesterday softmod his (via AIM).  I was selling this one for someone who wanted to save time and just get a modded xbox for cheap.

I'm probably going to just make a new thread cause I certainly wouldn't want to buy after seeing all this  :o

I promise not to poison the new one. :)

Again...

I apologize.

Actually SNAAAKE, I just read the FAQ on that AID / SID site.  You still have to get the saves onto the hard drive, which is the hard part in the first place.  The SID disc is only read after the corrupted save is loaded.

BTW, for anyone who's interested, you actually have to have hardware to softmod your xbox (even with the SID disc).  You either need an Action Replay and a Microsoft Memory card (at least $30 combined), or you need a modders cable aka xbox USB adapter and a compatible memory stick (at least $20 combined).  A friend's modded xbox and a Microsoft Memory card works too, but I didn't have that option.  Oh yeah, you need a game too, either 007 AUF, Splinter Cell, or Mechassault.

versapak sorry I called you an idiot.  No bad blood.  I'm gonna lock this thread now.
