My mom wants an automatic car starter for Christmas. What's a good one that's easy to put in, for under 200 bucks?
If it helps, she drives a Neon.
Thanks

I'd have to imagine they're all pretty much the same in terms of installation...

A neon?

Yeah, I told her putting a starter on it was a waste of time. But a friend of hers started her car with out going out in the cold, now she wants one.

A midget, a pair of handcuffs, and a spare key will cost a LOT less than $200

I worked at a car audio shop for five years and can tell you this is not a DIY type of project. I spent tons of time fixing some Jethro's home install. You can set off airbags, burn out ignition switches and all other sorts of nasty stuff poking around under the dash. Find a decent shop with a good rep at let them do it. Should only cost about a 150 or less.

Brakes are something that can kill you if done improperly, and are cheap to pay someone for, considering how much your life is worth. I still do mine myself. Some things aren't that hard to do, and ARE a DIY project. This is one of them. Reading instructions and getting a Haynes manual make this one of the easier additions to a car you can do. I'd bet you tall cash your "Jethro" guys were either dunces to begin with, or didn't fully read/understand the directions and figured "FTW, it can't be that hard".

The problem is, you described 90% of the people out there. For most people it's a lot easier to just take it into the shop.

Ever installed one?
No I haven't. I've installed three. All on cars that cost AT LEAST as much as that there $1000 computer you're wailing about ::) Along with various other electrical crap I've installed on a car over the years. That IS what we were talking about, right? Someone's car? ::) How ya doin' there 90%?

I think you'll find that I laid out my position there pretty well, and methinks you think too highly of yourself. "Great with electronics" (well, excpet for car alarms, the Soaper Kryptonite), have a CAR manual and the installation information, yet CAN'T figure it out? I call ---That which is odiferous and causeth plants to grow--- on your having all the manuals/instructions AND being a genius at electronics claims. Either one or BOTH of those claims is false, because a "genius at electronics" wouldn't be stymied by a simple electrical hookup and wiring diagram.
Simpler still, sell the alarm instead of having some box lying around the house taunting you about this failure. ::)

;D I think I am seeing and understanding what you're talking aobut now! ;)

I know quite a few guys that I wouldn't trust to do long division yet install these things regularly.

Leave Stingray outta this

I've never installed one, but I feel 100% confident that given the manual, I could do it without too much trouble.
Edit: and I wrote this before Drew took the cheapshot at me. ;)
