Title: Hrm... project team outing...
Post by: ChadTower on November 30, 2005, 11:37:20 am

So, one of the projects I'm on at work, the one that has been making me work nights, weekends, and holidays all fall, has an outing tonight at Dave + Buster's... I've never been there.

I never go to anything related to work outside of work hours. I know they do that stuff to build teamwork and whatnot, but I have other things I'd rather do outside the office.

I might make an exception for a location that includes video games though. ;)

Food - average.  I like the bar burgers.  4 mini burgers on hawaiian-type rolls.

Games - mostly enviromental (is that the right term???  Driving, snowboarding, etc...) and ticket types.  A few 'classics' tossed in for those of us that remember the 80s.  My local one even has an Ultracade for me to ignore.

Same here.  Besides, getting paid is the only reason I talk to half the people anyhow.  I keep my professional life & personal life very far apart.  I limit the work activities to once a year (so it validates my "attempts" to attend the rest) and never drink more than one drink.  I also never stay longer than two hours.  That makes me seem like I have a hectic life and validates my reasons why I can't work late all the time.

I work to get money to spend on things I actually like to do.

I've never been to Dave & Busters.  I do like mini-burgers ala White Castle though...

Dave and Busters is a blast.  I used to go to the on down at Dallas when I used to have to travel for my job.

My 31st Birthday is on Dec. 4th and abunch of us are going out to Dave and Busters on Friday to celebrate in Kansas City.

I rarely go to work outings either.  My time outside of work is almost exclusively for spending time with my kids.

This one I'll go to, though, to see what the place is like.

I never drink alcohol at company events.

What's the point if you can't get hammered, hit on that new chick down in logistics and then puke on your boss?

All I want is $20 in tokens and one well working pin.  I am in engineering.  There are no hot chicks in engineering, thusly moving the hot chick attitude down the scale, past the decent looking chicks straight to the lower than average looking chicks.

A lower than average looking chick with a hot chick 'tude is no better than a Ford Escort with a cracked windshield and bald tires.  Does what you need, but not terribly well and looks like crap doing it.

So, Dave and Busters is okay... pretty place, lots of high end large screen $1+ to play cabs.  A couple of pathetic looking, new release classics (ms pac / galaga, space invaders / qix) and some random stuff.  Big restaurant.

I didn't do anything, though, as I sat at the front door waiting for anyone else from this "official company outing" to show up... not one person, not even the organizers.  I am really starting to hate this damn company.

So, now I'm told that they actually WERE there, in a private area, and that you had to have the name of the organizer to get in.  I was never given that info, so I sat outside for a half hour, and I live 40 minutes away.

Oh yay.

I've already been teetering on that brink for weeks anyway.  The other day I came within a couple of deep breaths of shouting THAT'S IT YOU MORONS I QUIT SWIVEL ON A DICK and walking out of a project meeting.

I usually like socializing with coworkers, but your case, holidays, weekends, etc, an outing is an insult.

Ok, so you've taken away all of my free time to be with MY family and friends.

Now you want to take more of it away to take me out to dinner?

Forget it.  Take the money you might have spent and give me a bonus.  And I'll go out with my wife and kids.

I actually asked if I could bring my kids, as it IS Dave and Buster's, and was told I could not.

Damn good thing in the end since we would have sat there by the arcade waiting without the magic password to get into the private room we didn't know was there.

Natural selection.

If you don't want to get caught doing something, don't do it.

HAHAHAHA! That's one of the funniest videos I've ever seen online. :)

If you don't want to get caught doing something, don't do it.

Well, not in front of a camera and within earshot of the person you don't want to know about it anyway. ;)

That's pretty much why you don't poke the bear.  I would be willing to bet she's a lazy problem employee anyway, being that stupid.
