I had a weird dream last night and wanted to share it with you guys to see if this might work or if it is just cooler in my dream than reality :)
It is sort of like a reverse arcade table ...
Take the core of an arcade table and instead of a monitor, place a projector pointing up.
Not sure how the chairs would work but I was imagining something like they have in planetariums with seats that recline almost all the way.
Control panels would slide out / up from the arm of the chair, though I suppose you could just have corded ones connected to the base on your lap.
Have I gone nuts or has anyone ever thought about something like this?
Cheers,
James

*cleaning coffee off my keyboard now...thanks*
Frankly, I like it....and I too am nuts

Go back to sleep. Idea is better there.

Interesting idea. Sounds like you've been listening to Lionel Richie before going to bed.

I remember a few years ago a few guys fed vector arcade info to a laser head (projector) and were playing all sorts of games on their wall. Just rotate and you got your game man. Heck your room would essentially be the cabinet and you get to live inside. ;D

Projector gaming is cool.... never thought of doin it on the ceiling though

I'm actually planning on doing this on a wall via HTPC and a super gun with a high quality HD DLP projector once I complete the move to my new house.

Wow, thats so sick. Joust on the big screen. Whood a thunk it?!?
Thats got to be fun.

I've often looked at the RGB inputs on my old tube projector - and the outputs from my Gauntlet PCB and wondered the same thing.
Question is: is it worth getting killed by the wife for putting more junk in the living room?

Man, I've had a very similar plan for my "Theatre" when we finally move into a bigger house :). I have the projector already that I use for all my gaming. But I had always invisioned the controllers popping out of the chairs just like you described. Like those auditorium chairs in college where the wood part flips from the side over your lap. But it would have joysticks and buttons on it LOL.
Man, I wish I could retire now so I had time for fun projects like this :).

PJ currently hangs from the ceiling. I'd need to roll the Gauntlet cab in...
