Title: Best way to secure plexiglass to CP?
Post by: sealslayer on November 28, 2005, 10:15:55 am
I have been looking at various different projects on the net and from what I've seen I can't figure out how most people have secured their plexiglass to the CP.
Most have maybe just 2 visible screws but nothing near any of the edges of the plexiglass, I guess they are using the buttons to hold down the glass in the middle of the CP, is the Plexiglass not in danger of being caught on the edges and pulled up?

The plexi in my control panel is held by the buttons and the joystick screws.

The edges are covered by the t-molding.

Yup, same here. Buttons and joystick bolts are all I needed.

Mines held down from the buttons only, works great.

Thanks guys, I'm still very much in the design and learning stage.
I'm trying to build up as much info as possible to get everything clear in my head before I even start to cut the first bit of wood, so you may well find some more strange questions from me in the near future  ;D

I had the same concerns as you when planing my cab.I was not comfortable without having something to hold the plexi down on the edges.Unless your buttons are close to the edge I felt there was too much potential for it to get snagged and lifted causing a crack.I wound up using a product from  http://www.t-moulding.com/cart/customer/product.php?productid=10&cat=16&page=1  called t-molding with lip.My cp is made from 5/8 with a 1/8 plexi panel on top.I then cut one of the lips off the t-molding with a razor knife,it sounds harder than it is,cutting the extra lip off was not really that hard once you get the hang of it.I ordered a couple extra feet to be safe and practice on.I cut my slot in a scrap piece first to make sure the slot was positioned right so the remaining lip of the t-molding was tight against the plexi.I used a single piece that wraps all the way around the top of my cp.If you notch the lip out carefully at the corners you can get a very nice finish with no gaps.
