Title: Ohh Steamer, do I have a virus?
Post by: DarkKobold on November 28, 2005, 09:25:02 am
When I hit ctrl-alt-delete in Win XP, this pops up, instead of my normal ctrl-alt-del window. I think it may be a virus -

That depends...  Were you scanning for viruses and had an IE window looking at a page regarding CTRL-ALT-DEL NOT SHOWING PROCESSES when you took the screenshot?

Stupid question, but you are aware that Taskmanager has multiple tabs, right?  None of the tabs shows the view you're used to seeing?

Easiest way to determine whether you have a virus is not to ask us, it's to run a scan...  If you don't have AV software (which I'm guessing you do), try the free scan at http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

To see the tabs, you have to double click on the grey part of the window.  Easiest way to describe it is double click in the grey area to the left of the End Task Button.  That will show all the tabs.

Thanks Hoopz. I thought it was a virus, disabling me from seeing hidden processes.
Doh! I didn't remember double clicking.

Grue - ran norton, and it did find one virus.

Glad to help.   :)

That has to be a "feature" of Windows that no one knows about and no one knows why its in there.

I read about it once in Maximum PC and wondered why the hell it was a part of Task Mgr.

learn something new every day, I never knew about that double click thing.   One of my favorite random "features" of windows is right clicking on the desktop, go to "arrange icons by" then uncheck the "show desktop icons"  most people don't know about that and get pissed because they think all their desktop icons were deleted.  fun stuff.
