he hehe Grrrrr. heze help :-\ :-\ :-\
Frigging pinball. malfunctioning.
It is 1976 Williams Space Mission
Worked fine yesterday. Today, it scores when you hit the flippers, and it starts resetting in the middle of a game. Additionally, there is a loud buzzing noise when I first turn it on.
Any suggestions? I have both the manual and the schematics.
Sometimes I wonder if it would have been better to ask Santa for a nice football...

hmmm check the usual suspects, loose plugs into main board and from playfield to head? any burned marks on the mainboard anywhere? Does the game have a diagnostic where you can test switches, flashers, solenoids?
I would unseat every connection to the mainboard (clean if necessary) and re-seat them first thing first.

None of those things are going to work.
It's an EM.

Ah yes, good old Space Mission. I remember it well. We had several of them on the routes in the late 70's. They were good earners!
As to the scoring problem, check for a playfield switch (usually a standup switch) set too close or getting stuck. Reset/buzzing could be the main reset bank coil (the giant red wrappered coil) pulling in/getting stuck. Could even be something simple like the lock relay on the bottom panel humming/buzzing from dirt/corrosion on the armature flap. Also the coin lockout relay (that rejects coins when the machine is off or in the middle of the score motor cycle) is known to hum from a bind in the linkage.

I should also let you know that the previous owner of this machine really screwed things up. Apparently, he didn't know of the relatively simple way of enabling free play, so he rewired the whole damn machine. Now the coin mechs, credit wheel, and anything relating to the coin system are disabled.

Wow Ken. You never cease to amaze me. Sounds like you're much older than I thought! ;-)
