Title: Started a copy of Pro Pinball Presas Cabinet.
Post by: www on November 25, 2005, 12:42:07 am
Today I started to make a sort of copy of this machine.

It took me longer to program my router than it would have done to cut it by hand.

"It took me longer to program my router than it would have done to cut it by hand."

Ya but look at thse sweet cuts...u suk.  Just kidding ;)

I just cut the sides to my cab. Someone suggected to clamp them together to make them match.

I am glad I did, every single edge was different! I did alot of sanding to make them equal. Glad I did.

This looks like it will br a great looking unit.
Are you rounding the sides or using t-moulding?

That is a really slick design for a space efficient stand up cab. Looking forward to watching your build!

Yeh I was jealous of others too, so i built the CNC Router myself.
If you want to build your own visit here. www.cnczone.com
The site is so good that --BINGO! Either that, or I was attempting to say "before" but it was too many letters to type-- I visited it, I didnt even know what a CNC machine was, withing 6 weeks I had built my own.

Here is the next shot.  I have used T moulding on this one. Essentially this project is just to get dimentions right. Even though I will finish it to completeion, I am thinking of it  as more of a proof of concept/copy :)
The next cabinets I will concerntrate on details etc.

gulp how much does one cost to build, and how long to cut out that 4x8 sheet?

Wouldn't matter how long it took, I'd sit there with a beer and watch it the whole time.

Finished reading it yet :)

Mine cost 3.5k but that is cheap considering a bought one from a professional company will cost 80+k
There are some guys who claim to have built smaller ones for 100 bucks, by sourcing second hand parts etc.

Sorry for the delayed progress on my cabinet, I will be getting into it on the weekend.

He he, its so nice to just sit back and se it do all the work for you. Especially if you are doing bulk lots. That job took 12 minutes to cut.

That just rocks ASS.  Cut accurately in 12 minutes.

Of course, 3.5k is way out of my price range.  I just spent two hours trying to get the cost of a coil down from $20 to $16.   :-[

any ideas on how much a CNC machine shop would charge for a service like this ( cutting out an arcade in a 4x8 piece of mdf)..... and any ideas where to look in the Philadelphia area

I realise we are straying a bit from the topic, but since it relates to building cabinets, so be it.

Have a look at this thread for inspirational projects you can do with these machines. My name is ynneb in these threads.

I am in Australia, so I dont know.
However, I will post the cutting code once I have finised the cabinet and know that it all goes together right. There are heaps of members on CNCzone (20,000) probably some in Philly who would cut it for the cost of a few beers. So long as you give them the code and its a no brainer for them.
