Anyhow, be sure to keep body fluids under control when using it, as they may cause permanent damage to the machine.

yeah so im back, i got there at 330 and there were already people around the building in a line. they handed out vouchers and only like the first 100 people got laptop vouchers it was BS. it was going to be my christmas present from my mom/grandpa but theyre pissed that happened so im probably going to get a better one now on the bright side...

You should have got there heaps early. You could have scalped some tickets.

I still get a scrollbar (albeit a small one) at 1600x1200 with the browser maximized... Of course, running a browser maximized at that resolution impacts readability (too few line breaks), so it's not something that I could understand wanting to do.
Bummer on the notebook. I was considering going up to Best Buy to get the $379 Toshiba there, but knew I'd need to get there around 10-11pm to have a chance at getting one. Talked myself out of spending the money, which had the side benefit of allowing me to get a good night's sleep in my nice warm bed.

Best Buy is getting so screwed right now...their website hasn't been able to take orders for over a week now (you can't even browse the inventory), and it's still down TODAY, on Black Friday!
I can't imagine the millions in online sales they're missing. Read an article somewhere stating they were having server issues. Damn, what kind of server issues keep a huge retailer like Best Buy offline during the busiest sales season of the year?

Got in line at our Best Buy at 2 AM. Got 3 of the $150 computers for various people. We were like 45th in line at that time...

I went to my circuit city at 8:30 thursday and there were already people waiting. When voucher time came we were 2nd in line and got a laptop but it took 3 hours in the store just to buy the thing. Overall it was very frustrating due to their poor checkout system.

I shop at Dell's website A LOT. I buy maybe a dozen computers from them a year, as well as various other things like PDAs, projectors, cameras, printers, etc. Their site is down or having serious problems a good 10% of the time and this is something that has been going on for at least a year or two. I swear to god their website is being run by the same people running MySpace. I always wonder, when I visit their website and get a 404 page, or when I'm already at their website and click a link and get a 404 page and suddenly can't view anything on the Dell.com domain for the next twenty minutes, how many people go to Dell's website intending to buy a computer only to end up with a Gateway because Dell's site wouldn't pull up. You'd think that a company with no B&M presence whatsoever would have a more reliable site.
Sorry. I don't know WTF this has to do with anything.

Nyeh, I just don't see the point in waiting 5 hours, on a sidewalk, in 20 degree weather to get a laptop cheaply.
I don't need the top of the line model that badly.
-
well chad we all know your stance on technology, your version of a laptop is a pen and paper =p
-
Actually, I have a laptop, probably about 18-24 months old.
The trick is to stay far enough beind the cost curve but close enough that you can use technology for things that are actually necessary.

So very true.
-
I think the disparity is age based, and based on a differing perception of what is really necessary.
A 20 year old considers a cell phone an absolute necessity.
A 30 year old may still think "I lived for 25 years without a cell phone just fine."

But I don't think that.
I got my laptop for about 1000 in july. HD display, card readers, gig of memory, dvd burner, 80211g. all kinds of stuff. I love it. it weighs about 50 lbs. but it does all kindsa stuff so I like it.

My Girlfriend, her mom, and I got to wal-mart at 2:45 on Black Friday. We were sixth, seventh, and eighth in line for the laptops. We each got a laptop for $404 after tax. We plan to sell two of them on ebay for hopefully $560 plus shipping and have a nearly free laptop.
