I have a 6 sided (hexigonal is 6 or 12?) glass for a cocktail table.
I planned on having a 4 sided cocktail table (with shelfs on the diagonal side for beer holders ect). With the two long sides being for horizontal games and one of the other sides with 2 joysticks for streetfigher games... and the last side with a swappable control panel.
but I had another idea last night
an 8 sided control panel.. and a rotateable monitor. The monitor would rotate only 135, 90, or 45 degrees, This will make all 8 sides have an option for a horizontal or vertical monitor setting... Some would be upside down... some would be upside down so I would have to vamp up my frontend to deal with it..
my only consern will be for 2 player side by side games.... I won't have an easy ability to do it... But then I thought I could add 2 new rotations... that would allow me to add 2 spots next to each other and rotate the monitor between them for 2 player games... but this will remove the ability to do robotron without a special section for robotron itself.
Anyway, I have to figure out what controls I have/want... and see if it's doable.
All this started because I couldn't come up with a good way for a removeable control panel that I really liked.....

So.. instead of the control panel rotating ala 1up... the person rotates? =)
Kinda like a yakov smirnoff...
In Mother russia the control panels rotate you!
*shrug*
seems like a neat idea... I thought i saw an almost the same but not quite cocktail ... with steering wheels in the angled slots ala demolitioin derby... *shrug*

That IS a funky idea - I'm picturing a round table with all sorts of different control panels around it - and some could double for 2/4 player positions(gauntlet, anyone?). Talk about your party machines...and the rotating monitor idea is great - like a supercocktail table. You could have people playing cards AND pacman all on the same table.
Do you think there would be problems with the monitor if it keeps changing alignment(color problems)? Or if keeping the orientation to the floor the same would it have the same trouble as most rotating monitors? I wonder if you'd have to degauss it everytime it rotated - I don't think I've seen a table that has a rotating monitor(could be wrong, tho).
