Title: Newbie needs help
Post by: mawc on November 22, 2005, 08:06:41 pm
I have just begun using Mame32.  I am deployed to Iraq with the U.S. Army right now, but when I go home in a few months I am going to begin constructing my first cabinent.  I am trying to work out the software while I am here.  Many of the ROM's I try to play give me an error ".chd NOT FOUND"  In addition, sometimes when I am playing the game will skip or switch back and forth between other games.  Can anyone help me with this?  Thanks from Baghdad!!!!!!!!!!

Well the chd not found means you don't have the relevant chd for that game.  Some original games had hard drives and the chd is just that - meaning you need the game rom as well as the chd (these can be very large).  The game skipping back and forth could have something to do with the button allocation - pressing ctrl, alt, shift etc (which are default mame settings) can cause issues.  Best to change these by starting up a game - press tab - go into Input (General) - then change the the controls from here.  This will change the controls for all games.

Welcome aboard

Thanks for the help man.  I will begin my search for .chd files now on the internet.  Your right about the controls too.  I changed things around and it works great!!!!!  Cannot wait to go home and put together my own custom arcade controls.

Keep in mind that only a small handful of .chd games will actually play properly even on the quickest of PC's.
