I'm starting on a new CP with the Centipede vs. Street Fighter theme.
I'm using 3/4" high grade plywood because I intend to use 3/4" quarter round to make the round over at the front of the panel and because I have a few pieces of it lying around.
I put the pieces on the table saw to make em nice, smooth and square. Then I pulled out my artwork (not shown for dramatic purposes but chances are you have seen it elsewhere) and laid it on top of my pieces. I used a finish nail to center punch my buttons and joysticks. Hopefully my artwork will line up properly when I'm all finished.
I used forstner bits to get a nice smooth cut all the way through with out blow out on the backside.

I always use t-nuts now as that

routed

Heres my plan for how the above pictured panels will come together
-
So I cut a piece of 3/4" quarter round molding to the length of the CP, 23 7/8".
I assembled the control panel entirely out of 90 degree angle brackets as pictured here.
-
I attached the quarter round moulding using only wood glue. Tight Bond III exterior wood glue. And I clamped it for around 2 hours.

I am planning to use this CP for a good sized Bartop Cabinet someday. I should mention that the inspiration and design for both the CP and the future bartop come from Kentoads "Gargantuan Bartop".
Another Clamped Shot, cause clamps are cool
-
After the glue dried I started throwing on the wood putty. Then I sanded and realized I need more putty, re-applied and sanded once again.

Its Friday night around midnight here in cali. I'm posting what I've got so far to kill time whilst I wait for the primer to dry. I've put three coats of kilz on so far and when I'm done posting I'll sand it down smooth with 220 grit and apply the final coat of primer.
The grain is still showing through since I used plywood so hopefully this will disappear with the sanding.
Tomorrow I'm thinking about spray painting the inside and sides of the control panel.
-
I'm hoping to have the CPO and controls installed by Sunday.
-
looks good cant wait to see it done
-
Heres a pic of the inside, painted with the controls installed.

I got the artwork from Mamemarquees.com They were extremely helpful with getting the sizing of this thing just right.
I realized to late though that I should have put the controls closer to the edge. Some would say it would have made the artwork work out better. But I dont like controls close to the edge so this is how it came out. The reason the thing is so high is it has to accomodate a computer in the space.

And a side shot

I wont be building the bartop this thing will go in for a while. Part of the reason I built the CP now was because I felt bad about having the cool artwork rolled up in my garage for so long. :P
Maybe I'll wire it up next week. I also have to decide if I like blue or red ball tops on there better. I have the reds so maybe I'll post pics of that also.
