What's a Wal-Mart at midnight? I don't even go in there during daylight hours unless someone (read as "Mrs. Stingray")  makes me go.

Wow, someone who isn't living under the rock known as EE.

Xbox 360, AKA one of those things I'll buy at a yard sale in 2008.

Ooh, so the 360 is coming out. Now time to wait a few weeks for the price of used X-Boxes to fall into the toilet. I may actually buy one.

I knew what this was about... but there is no way in hell I'll be camping out lol.

i'll pick one up after a price drop and a modchip, until then, my PS2 and Xbox are doing just fine.

I'll prolly be camping out somewhere come Friday though :)

I'm thinking of getting a 360 after christmas.  See what I get for gift cards for christmas.

Plus I have a first gen toshiba dvd player.  The 360 would become my new DVD player.  Actually, it will replace a couple of boxes so for me it's worth the price instead of buying a bunch of new stuff.  Otherwise $400 is tough to handle.

Plus it's a system that is just asking to be hacked with that removable HD.  I hae a feeling some cool hacks and emulators will be out on it.  And 1st gens are usually the ones to get for hacking.

There's no doubt I'd be camping, if only I had the cash. :(

If I had the cash to drop on a 360 I'd probably drop it on a pinball machine.

Or a stripper, whichever I found first.

That's what I'm doing - and it doesn't even require camping out in the cold.

I have the cash, but I've seen nothing on the 360 that interests me yet.

I'm looking to get NFS, Perfect Dark, and Condemmed.
Ridge Racer and NBA 2K6 are possibilities.

Yepp, not interested in Project Gotham.  I never liked the kudo system.  I will wait for Forza.
I'd get Madden if they didn't take out a bunch of features.  So next year.
That marble game looks like a good time waster.

If I could use keyboard and mouse with COD2 then I'd get that.

The initial lineup of 360 games doesn't impress me at all, the graphics in them aren't much better then whats on PCs or XBox and the gameplay seems to be more of the same.

I wish I'd preordered so I could sell it on Ebay.  The first next-gen system I'll get is the Revolution.  Beyond that I'm currently more interested in the PS3 than the Xbox 360.  But that doesn't matter cos I won't be getting either of them during their first year of release, so we'll see how the cards are falling by the time they are more affordable.  I won't get both, though.

What possible reason is there to get an Xbox 360 now?  Not a single game makes me go "WOW"

I'll wait for Halo 3..... Then I'll be on a line at midnight.

I find this funny about people.  Just because Halo or Forza isn't in the release people seem to think there aren't good games coming out on the 360.

I think COD2 is a very good reason if you are into FPS.  Same is Condemmed, looks to be just as scary as FEAR.

Project Gotham does look like an awesome racer, but i never liked kudos so I can understand that.

The problem I see with the release titles is they seem to be mainly racing, sports, or FPS.  There really isn't a large diversity.

For me, I love arcade racers, so NFS is a good reason to get the 360.

I will get one after christmas.  I definately want a early gen model, that way when hacks come out I have a bios that isn't patched :)

There are a few games I want from the launch window lineup.

The one I want most is DOA 4. DOA:U was some awesome fun on Live, and I imagine 4 will be even better.

Also...

As Sir Poonga pointed out. The earlier gen models are gonna be the ones to own when hacks start making their way out.

I have preordered mine so I shouldn't have to camp out too long.  I have given some thought into putting it on ebay and if I can get double what I payed for it I just might.  I'm going with Perfect Dark right now for launch I hope Rare has created a game that is more then just a standard FPS.  Once Dead or Alive 4 comes out I will probably get it. I can't wait until Gears of War comes out.

I'm definately getting an early mode as soon after christmas as I can.
I'm one of those people that get a paycheck every other week, so at least twice a year I get an extra paycheck.  I don't budget for that so that ends up as extra money to do whatever with.  I will get a 360 with it.  I was thinking I should get a hidef tv then.  Unfortunately that is slightly out of reach.  AND I want 2 GPWiz49s with two 49way joys and an ledwiz.  So I think hidef tv will be the summer extra paycheck.  I will probably pick up a vga cable.  I have my arcade right next to my home theater system.  Or I have an extra 19" vga monitor I could set on the coffee table for now :)

Does anyone know if oyu can surf the internet with it?  That;s one thing I liked about the dreamcast.

You know whats sad... the going rate for a Xbox 360 is now around $800 - $1000 on ebay.  People who pay double or 3x the price have way to much money.

Can't Wait to get my hands on one!

If anyone gets one - let us know how
the games are that you picked up.

It will be nice to hear from people that actually
have one and have played the games rather
than opinions from speculators.
How can anyone not be excited about something "new"?!?

Its time to end all the hype and let us know
what it's really like.

I'm going to go nuts since I won't have mine for another
week or two or 3... :(

If I don't get one for Xmas, It'll be on order December 26th.  I want a first gen for the same reason:  Security issues in the launch version will make it easier to mod than its successors.  It's a pretty powerful machine, and I think that it'll really have some impressive features if it can be modded like the original xbox.

or instead of wasting your money on an xbox 1.5, you could just wait about 6 months and any good game that comes out for the 360 will be ported to the pc.  just like halo, and knights of the old republic, etc. etc etc.  personally, thats why i never bought an xbox in the first place.  i wanted to play halo and KOTOR but i dont need to if MS is going to port them to the pc.  stupid microsoft and their crappy ignorance about consoles.

Good use of the $$$.
One you get to play with little balls anytime you want.
Other one gets limited ball playing but great when she rings the bell.

A fraction of the XBox games came out on the PC... you make it sound like
everything eventually makes it to the PC.

Not so.

What?  There are no modchips in production for Xbox360.  Teams are researching it and trying to crack it.  Gimme a break.  We won't see a mod chip for months, if even in the first year.

Plus, you like wasting 2x or 3x as much money keeping your computer
'up to date' to play all the latest games?
If you are willing to 'beef' up your PC for a couple years with a top
of the line video card, you are still spending more than a XBOX system.
That's why I have been moving more to consoles for game.  It's expensive to keep a computer up to date in order to play the latest and greatest game.  The only games I really play on a PC now are games that suck on consoles - like FPS, flight sims, RTS, etc...  Any thing good in those genres came out a long time again.  I haven't seen anything new that is good for any of those (except FPS).

I don't know why people have been calling the xbox 360 an xbox 1.5.  Technologically it is astounding.  If you compare the xbox to the 360 the 360 is far more advanced.
I think the two main reasons people are calling it the xbox 1.5 is because it doesn't support blu-ray (whoopty-do, I'd rather wait a year or two when the technology is cheaper) and no "killer" launch title.  Because to xbox fanboys if it doesn't release with halo or forza it isn't worth it.  I am a big sports game fan so I love the release.  Almost EA's entire console library is there.  Project Gotham and Condemmed look pretty worth too.

I've got to go w/ the SirP on this one.  This is the EXACT reason why I no longer use my computer for games.  If I use my computer only for Internet/Word Processing/Software development I only have to upgrade it every couple of years to get full use out of it.  If I use it for games, and I want to play the game the way it was meant to be played with full graphical effects, I'd have to spend HUNDREDS every few months.  Sure you can play it with dumbed down graphics, but what's the point.

Instead, I make the decision to once every 5 years or so buy the newest console.  I spend $300-$400, and I'm damn sure that My game looks JUST AS GOOD as it does on anyone elses xbox 360.  I don't have to be an elitest hardware snob to see it in all its glory.

And all console games don't come out for PC.  And even if they do, I'd still rather play a game, with friends, on a couch with everyone sitting around and easily taking turns.  PC Games are great when you're playing BY YOURSELF, but if you  have friends who visit at all, it's so much better to have a console.

Those are my reasons at least.

Its somewhere in the forums somewhere if i remember right..

Ah ha.  Well, then, I'll just head over there and read every thread in every forum until I find it.

There will, of course, be modchips.  And I could even be wrong.  I know that SmartXX was in possession of some stolen Xbox360 development kits for quite a while a few months back, so maybe they've got a head start.  But it seems to early to me, and make no mistake, if SmartXX already had a chip in production the loudmouth of the universe Franz would have made an announcement about it.  It wouldn't be hiding in a post on a forum.

Some of you people are funny.

Why ever buy anything new? As long as you wait 5 years you will always get it cheaper. ::)

I feel sorry for all those people that bought digital surround sound 8 years ago for $1000. They may have been enjoying awesome surround sound in their movies for 8 years more than me, but I only had to pay $150.

What is even funnier is all those people that wasted money on color tv's. Shoot... I'm still watching my black and white, and it is a good thing too. Just imagine if I would have wasted money on a color tv, when they are just being replaced with hi-def. Speaking of hi-def... Why bother with that one? I can still see pictures on my tv, and we all know that 3D holographic is the future. ::)

Given the location of these boards, such is to be expected, but there are many among us that suffer greatly for good-old-day-itis.

Why waste money on something new, when all they make is crap, because all the good stuff was made years ago...

NOT!!!

$200 extra is an exaggeration to begin with, but rolling along those lines anyway... It is worth it for getting to experience the new stuff when it is new. The likelihood of easier modding is just an added benefit included with everything else in the early adopter cost.

i think people that complain about upgrading PCs for gaming have never actually done it so they dont know what theyre talking about. These days processors over 2ghz are dirt cheap, so are mobos, and thats all you really need for any game. the only thing that matters is RAM and the video card. if you buy a generation under the newsest, but the best model, you will be able to use that card for about 2 years at least. ive been playing the newest PC games forever, my upgrades went like this

1.8ghz p4
geforce 4 4600ti
512MB RAM

i had that computer for a good 3years at least, at the end of the 3rd year yeah it was getting kinda lame but that was pushing it. about 7 months ago i got

3.2ghz athlon 3200 64 bit
geforce 6800 GT
1GB RAM dual channel

this runs every game out if not top notch, almost top notch, and you barely notice the difference. either way it plays everything and will for over another year. so yeah its a little more expensive than consoles, but they do more than play games obviously
