Title: Turrican Cab Art
Post by: robbins on November 20, 2005, 05:56:28 pm
Anyone out there remember Turrican for the Amiga?  I was thinking I'd like to build a cab that had a nice Turrican marquee and some cool side artwork based on the series.  I am a game geek, but have no graphic skills.  Anyone out there interested in a side project for fun?  Did I mention that I am a poor game geek and I would be looking for a volunteer?  *grin*

Step 1: Find the best high res pics you can of Turrican on the net
Step 2: Ask very nicely for someone to convert it to vector graphics
Step 3: Take the vector artwork to a company who can print it

(Step 2a: find money for the printing? ;) )

I tried auto-tracing the following image, unfortunately didn't come out very good. I thought it would work ok because it has large open areas of color, but I was wrong. Perhaps some tweaking of the image would give better results.

I liked the Amiga titlescreen for Turrican:

Hard to vector though  :(

I'd suggest trying to pick up some box art and scan it. It should be big enough that you could get a decent-resolution scan of it and enlarge it to standard 18"x24" sideart.

If you're in North America, there's auctions on eBay for the genesis games with boxes.

If you like the Genesis art by Julie Bell, posters can be ordered here:

This guy seems to have high-res scans by request:

Hope these help.

The title screen for the Amiga is exactly what I would love to have.  Well, in parts, at least.  The "Turrican" title for the marquee, and the dude with lightning and explosions for the side art.

I know that is pretty low res.  Do you think it would look like crap if I tried to print some large side are or a marquee based off the original graphic?  I could maybe run the game in WinUAE and use the Scale2x thing to get it a little higher res...

Has anyone tried printing out low res gfx big?  Can it work?

The image is too lowres. A 320x200 image just doesn't have enough graphical information to make a nice marquee/sideart.
The scale x2 function in WinUAE doesn't help - the source is still a 320x200 image.

I have written a little explanation on my website here (http://www.felsirworld.net/artwork.php#rastervsvector) about this subject.

robbins,

I had a little spare time and vectoriced the tittle if you want it, send me your e-mail so I can send it to you.

I know it's not perfect, but I do not have more time at this moment.
You can use this and adjust what you don't like.
