Just verifying. One couldn't play COD2, Quake 4, NHL06, etc with someone who has the PC version? Is it a software ware issue or the fact that m$ forces live?
Well, I know nhl06 won't work because they added features to it, grrrr.

Live is a closed network, so until they come out with Live for PC, then Xboxes will only be playing online with other Xboxes.

Xbox Live for the xbox 360 IS NOT OPERATIONAL until Nov 22. I read more than one article that said that although some people got ahold of the 360 early, EVERYONE would get to start playing online at the same time. 12:00AM, Nov 22.
You can play online using XLINK-KAI tho.

Heh
That has absolutely nothing to do with the question posed. :P

I think a console would be popular if it could network game, even if it was just LAN, with a PC. But then they couldn't make money off of a service. I think the communications ability and possibly make live only content would be enough for someone to get live. It's only $50 a year.

Well I remember back when they first announced XNA, which is their big developer kit/package/program, that the goal was to have games playable with PC's as well as with devices like PDA's.
I remember one example they used would be a person playing a Real Time Strategy game on the PC, where he is in fact issuing the commands to people playing in the first person on 360.
I think that if such things like that are part of their ambitions, then certainly we can expect some straight up PC and Xbox online play together as well.
It would still be over Live though, and you would have to subscribe to Live for PC, when/if it ever becomes available.

Possibility exists with Q4..

That's a cool idea, like BF2.
I'm hoping for PC to console interation.
