I'm sure I'm doing something wrong on a new pair of joysticks. i tried to install them into my neo geo mvs cabinet to test them out but seem to have run into a problem. the joysticks only register up right, right, and down right in the neo test screen. can't get anything to register on the other 5 directions. i've done lots of searches here but couldn't really find anthing except people talking about installing them with no problems. when installing there were 5 wires -

sorry to bump so soon (less than 48 hours) but i'm really hoping to work on my new control panel this weekend. any ideas anyone? pretty please?

Looks like the "Left" isn't hook up correctly.
Is there a short?
Check the encoder?
-
thanks so much for the reply. could "left" not working prevent up/down from registering by itself? how do i check for a short - with a multimeter? what's weird is it's both joysticks doing this. i've put another set of joysticks that was working although crappily back in, in the meantime so i think the harness is okay. it's still got a 2 slot neo pcb inside so no encoder. thanks for the post.

sounds like you have the sticks wired wrong, Gnd only going to right switch instead of all switches
double check your ground lead from your harness goes to all 4 switches on the stick
(the reason you get up-right and down-right is that when you push the joystick right you give the rest of the switches a rout to gnd)

there's 1 input for ground and inside it goes to all 4 switches - not sure if i can take it apart, but maybe i just connected ground to right. thanks so much for the post, i'll try to rewrite tonite.
edit: thanks for your help everyone, my harness was wired differently than i thought.

thats what I meant.. you have your right and ground reversed on your wiring loom
