$398 notebook on Black Friday and an ad that was leaked by employees...  How does this make them any different than any other retailer out there?  CompUSA and Best Buy ads have been available on the 'net for awhile now, and I know at least Best Buy has a $379 notebook.  It's the same thing as every year - I don't know why it's news, or why they've chosen to single out Wal-Mart here.

It's the same thing as every year - I don't know why it's news, or why they've chosen to single out Wal-Mart here.

Because it WASN'T like "any other retailer" LAST year.  They decided to buck the trend last year, which WASN'T the same thing as every other year, and something no one else dared to try.  They also point out that Wal-Mart might not have wanted this to get out - my guess is so that competition might assume they'll try the same thing as last year - so as to get the drop on the competition.

Also, I see an eMachines notebook at BestBuy, while the article references an HP at Wal-Mart.  Either way, I was suspecting the brands they were speaking of as sale items were of higher percieved value at Wal-Mart.

That's why they singled out Wal-Mart.

Thanks for the link though.  Our vacuum took a crap tonight and I was gonna pick one up tomorrow, but they've got a cheap one on sale that day.  I highly doubt vacuums will be a "hot item", so I'm gonna take my chances that one is still available when I decide to wander out ;D

Last year (like this year) I work that day, and have to be at work at 5.  I remember last year driving past Best Buy and seeing the line wrapped around the building and out to the street and feeling like I was seeing the most surreal thing in the world....felt like rubbing my eyes to see if the image would go away ;D

I think the actual laptop from walmart will be this one:

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4016520&sourceid=00041662121774945358

Seems like a decent machine, I think I'll try to get one.

If the Wal-Mart one only has 256 for memory, that's pretty lame.  It'll essentially be the minimum specs for XP.  Still, for that amount, if I could Wi-Fi with it, the wife could have this PC and I could be posting here from the crapper while I drop a deuce!

Something about art imitating life should be said here, but I can't think of anything.
