Title: AIM Worm possibility?
Post by: DrewKaree on November 14, 2005, 08:43:03 pm
So it's not April, and it seems to be a reputable source.  Any comments?  I hate the idea of my kids using AIM, and if this is possible, think about it....they ARE kids.....they aren't gonna be the ones fixing it ::)

Is this to say that you use AOL?

Oh man, you can't see it, but I've got a WHAAAAAAA? look on my face right now.

Now any good Dem could have told you how nasty AOL could be, after all they created it to destroy the minds of Republican children! Oh wait, I see that it's working.  ;)

Not only have I NEVER used AOL, I've successfully freed most of the family from that cult.

As Maxim pointed out, AIM isn't the same as AOL.  In fact, AIM is a separate application that can be downloaded by anyone this very second.  As far as I know, Yahoo Messenger doesn't allow that, and ICQ isn't very intuitive for the average AOL-type user to figure out.

And the Damns Dems didn't create THAT to twist our minds.  They brought Kids In The Hall into our homes via television.  It's all aboot the magic glowing box, ya know der hey!

I'll take your word that it is the "best" out there.  Frankly, anything with the word AOL in the name is a dangerous piece of tofu, but to each their own. ICQ works perfectly for me

It is the best for file transfers, giving two options, a standard file transfer like most IM programs have and also the option of inserting a file directly into the typing field, and having it show up directly on the screen when you send it...if the file is a picture, it is displayed on the screen in real time and both parties can see it.

"AOL" in the name means nothing. It is just a piece of software that they hired someone to write. Whoever wrote it did a good job. You are in no way, shape or form part of the so-called "AOL community" or an "AOL member" simply by downloading and using AIM.

To answer your original question, AIM worms are nothing new. Check out this link from Symantec, and search for "AIM".

Best is always subjective, but IMHO Trillian is the best to use.  Cross platform chatting for AIM, ICQ, Yahoo and that product out of Redmond....
