Well, the article does say she's got several other artificial legs.  Lets hope she's got one of these:

Great story to be able to still play sports after something like that. I wouldn't worry though, although very sad, if she is strong enough to lose her real leg and move on she will be able to lose her fake leg and move on.

She won't have to kick his ass, he already sealed his fate.

I bet the thief has no idea that it can't be sold... he probably thought he'd be able to fence that for big $$ since they cost so much.
