Title: Mortal Kombat Cabinet
Post by: gsoul on November 13, 2005, 06:16:13 pm
Okay, so this isnt really an announcement, more to show off my new toy that I bought.
In terms of project-wise, this is a restoration project, not a mame hack-up.

I found this cabinet while browsing another forum the other day. I just had to have it.

Basically the cabinet is an original LAI Mortal Kombat cabinet, with game boards for Mortal Kombat 1, Mortal Kombat II rev2, ULTIMATE Mortal Kombat III and Mortal Kombat 4.

Needless to say, I'm quite impressed, and for $500AUD I reckon it was a steal. Apologies if the old owner surfs this forum! :)

This is NOT the way to transport an arcade machine. But without having a truck, it was the only option. Still need to degauss the monitor, apparently they dont like being like this.

This sucked pulling it down the half dozen steps at his place, the cabinet weighs in at well over 300kg.

Anyways, after much grunting and sweating, I finally got it home. Heres some pics.

The condition is really good for a machine of its age. The only issue is the control panel overlay which is a bit mangled.

Not bad milage for a machine. Apparently this one lived in an airline lounge. Hence there are no cigarette burns of anything on the machine.

Here you can see the PCB's attached. They're all mounted in the cabinet and are selected by plugging in the jamma cable and the molex power cable.

That thing looks damn clean, looks like all it needs is a new control panel top and your set.  :)

That is roughly 660lbs....

I own a MK1 machine... It does NOT weigh 600 pounds... not even close.  Probably not even half that.

Yours looks nice and clean though, good deal.

I have to think that machine was already restored, if they knew enough to swap out PCB's it had to be in someones collection and cared for looking that clean.

It lived in an airline lounge, so it didnt take much rough play.

The artwork is a bit scuffed and the CPO is crap, these are the difficult parts to restore since LAI no longer sells the artwork. The artwork is slightly different to the Midway artwork in size and content. It also contains the LAI logos which add to the authenticity of this original cab.

Any suggestions on tracking down this artwork is welcome.

since you have all the MKs in the cab.  Give Snaake a yell he can make a sweet SUPER MORTAL KOMBAT art pack for you.  Atleast thats what I would do.

I like the artwork the way it is. I like keeping thing OG. I would swap the marquee with a custom one and wall mount that one. Think of something dope to name the "QuadraKombat" LOL, and design a nice looking marq.

Thast what I would do. oh, and is that extra block button for "RUN"?

Yes, the second block button is for run in MK3 & 4.

I think if I cant source the original artwork, I'll revector the CPO and modify it slightly to include the extra button.

Yeah, the multigame idea is kinda cool, but I want the cabinet to stay as original as possible.

I've added a custom MAMEWAH theme for when I have the JPAC plugged in.

Check it out here. Awesome for anyone with a MK/MK Inspired cabinet IMHO.
