Title: Mapping Trackball mouse buttons
Post by: Negativecreep0 on November 12, 2005, 10:01:26 am
Ok here is my problem i have an ipac 4 i have a trackball with usb harness thing from happs. Now I want to play both pc games and mame games on my cab. But I don't want to have to add extra 2 buttons for mouse buttons for the trackball. can I wire the trackball mouse buttons to my player one controls. Will this interfere with mame running if im playing a fighting game and the one button does both mame function and a left mouse click??? Or will mame ignore the mouse button functionality while running games?

thanks for any help clearing this up

I would remove the joystick buttons and repalce with mouse buttons and change the use for the buttons in mame with the tab key.

I have an optipac for my trackball and an ipac.   I wired the last two buttons of a six button layout for player one, to the optipac mouse buttons.  Then I went into mame and redefined the button configuration for all games.  This will set the mouse buttons to B5 and B6 for all games that you don't have a config file for already.  If you had it set up otherwise and did configure buttons for "this game" in any of them, you'll have to reconfig them individually.

Hmmm... Is the opposite possible? I wonder if there's something similar to JoytoKey (except upside down) that could be used to map keystrokes into mouse button inputs. That way you wouldn't have to wire specifically to support the mouse buttons. You could presumably map any of B1 through B6 to trigger mouse buttons presses for certain games.

I haven't wired my TB up yet, but I intended to leave the mouse button harness swinging in the wind. I hadn't thought about actually needing them until now.

Also check to see if you can map input in the games themselves.
