Serves them right. I can't believe that a company as large as Sony can score such a spectacular PR own goal.
One record company (could have been Sony, I can't remember) has also tried releasing CDs with deliberate errors on them so they cannot be read (and therefore copied) using a PC's CD Drive. The only problem is that they also wouldn't work in many standalone CD players. Doh.

It was first trialled in the Czech republic in the year 2000-2001 and it's still in use by the looks of it.
It's more like Macro-vision on videos and DVDs so not really a virus and can't be compared to what Sony did.
