I have a friend who has an original MS PACMAN cocktail that he wants to sell me, but I'm not sure what it's worth...it's in very good condition physically, and has been modified with a switch to add coins...the game plays, but once it's been on for a while the screen goes a little weird and colours start showing up randomly, or they change (I'm not sure)...I'm going to see it next week, and I really don't want to give him too little money, but I also don't want to spend more than I have to...
What price range would be reasonable for this type of machine with a cabinet in good to very good condition and a questionable monitor or PCB??
Thank you,
Matt

$300

$300
That's not much of a range...what are you basing that on?

I couldn't come up with a reasonable estimate becsuse I was terribly distracted by the girl tweaking her tweeters in your avatar.
Or you could check out ebay, then reduce it by the Ebay Inflation Factor.

HA! Though a Galaga is my holy grail...I've been wanting one of these things for years too (the MS Pac, not the tweaking boob girl)...thanks for the idea...I'll check out ebay...

Sinner, I believe you are in Canada...
RayB, a member here, has an excellent article over at CGCC on buying from Auctions. Check it out the thread at

In that thread, there is a user named cooke who has the results of the Starburst auctions and what machines go for. Check it out at. I didn't look to see if Ms Pac was there, but I'm sure it will give you a CDN range.

Sure wish I knew about this before I bought a couple of used ones, I paid too much based on this information.
Good Luck!

I am thinking you need to get your priorities straight and get back to us.....
-
Hmm.... a Ms Pac table game with "issues".
Well, I'd say $300 to $350 would be a reasonable offer since it's very likely you'll be needing to capkit the monitor and you might have a gameboard problem in the future. Plus the fact he has "added" a free play switch of somekind.
Hopefully he won't be one of those types of people who "saw them going for $2,000 on ebay" types.
-
Depends on how good of a friend he is and whats wrong with it.
My personal range is around $250-400
-
$300

The last few auctions I have been too - working cocktail models sell for $350 - $500. I consider the $500 range to be overpriced. Since that machine may have issues, $300 would be a good price. If the cab is in good condition, $400 would be fair.

I ... want ... pic ... pop ...
??? (what's pic pop?!)

I ... want ...

I always look at it this way. If its one of those THINGS that I must have, then expect to buy it close to $500.00 or maybe 1K for it, but for re-selling then $200 rage is good, but then again its always up to the seller to accept the offer. But if I find out who it is, even i have not seen it, I'll offer $50.00 for it cause its not what I really NEED, it just for re-selling purpose for make a small fee :) for the trouble and time for me to fix/pick up/clean etc......so If the owner is gonna give it to me for $50.00, look in B/S/T section and I will list it for $100.00 in working condition, but thats just me and the lucky buyer who will buy it from me ;D.

Thanks for the info guys..I went and took a look at the unit tonight...the cab itself is in great shape, but the monitor is pooched...he said it went all weird looking and he would shut it off, then after a while turn it back on, and it would work...then one day it went all weird again and went out...doesn't come on at all anymore...possibly something as simple as a cap kit?...
Anyway, when you hit the buttons and move the joysticks, the thing does make game sounds (with the exception of down on the joysticks, then it makes a rumbling noise)...I'm hoping it's in some sort of test mode...
I would have to fix the monitor, maybe something on the board...the glass has some scratches, but I'm hoping they will buff out...the coin door needs some work...new mechs and one of the metal covers for the coin slot...
The guy told me to make him an offer, but I have no idea what to say...is $175 too little? I dunno if I can afford much more than $200 right now, with Christmas coming and all...what do you think?
What's your opinion?
-
I just paid $150 for a GORF cocktail machine with a broken monitor. A new monitor would be at least $150 and board repair could be $89 or so. Add all that up and you've got $400 to get it up and running. I recently saw a want ad in the Dallas paper for a Ms Pacman Cocktail for $400, so that may be the value of a working Ms Pac cocktail.
-
I think C$175 is reasonable ... whether he'll accept or not is another thing ... for some reason, lots of folks here in SW Ontario think that Midway-style cocktails are made of gold (hence the buybacks at SB auctions).
Good Luck!
Cheers.

Really depends on how good a friend is.
for 175 its a great deal. 250 its a deal... for over 300 you could find better if you looked for a long while and where patient. For over 500 and your getting prices from about 8 years ago.
Too easy to build a new one. Most people who HAD to get one already did. And they made a ton of them...
It will never be a collecters item since of the quantities they where made.... So their heightened value was purely on the people wanting them.... but that has faded on in the last few years.
ahh... the days of 1k mspacmans... I remember those days...

Well, I called the guy, and we agreed on $200CDN for the unit. I hope to pick it up this weekend coming...I just need to find a truck or van...the next this will be my posting of pictures and trying to figure out what's wrong with the thing...I hope it's something as simple as a cap kit...I think I can replace one of those...
-
I picked her up last night...but I had to drop it off at my GF's parent's house due to another obligation...I did play with her a little though...PCB seems to be producing all the right sounds in test mode...when I take it off test, I can put a coin in and start the game...joystick seems to move MS around, but no video...I can't wait to get her home and get her top open...
I'm not sure where to start looking...check fuses I assume, then look for broken wires and/or solder connections, then I guess I need to start measuring voltages and seeing if they match the schematics I found...
Should I do a cap-kit no matter what?
-

For clarification, are you talking about the Ms Pacman or your girlfriend?

I finally got her home...

Looks like it has a RCA 19VLTP22...hopefully it won't be too difficult for me to fix...
Someone tooke the test switch section and screwed it next to player 2 so you can add credits...weird...
-
RCA 19VLTP22 is a tube #, I believe.
You may want to post in M/V and see if Ken Layton can ID the chassis for you.
FWIW, Happs has a sale on their Vision Pro monitors until the end of January ... if mine ever ships, I'll let you know how it works out as a replacement monitor.
Cheers.
-
Well, I've identified the monitor...I got the manual and schematics for it...I even got a troubleshooting flowchart for it...I used a continuity tester to check one fuse, and then decided it's beyond me right now to fix this myself...
I called a guy in my area...just up the street actually...he gives free estimates, so I'm going to pop the monitor out of the cab and bring it to him to fix...
I'm just anxious to get this thing playable, and then I can start restoring the outside...
