I just got a ps/2 trackball (which works great in windows) but I can't get it to work in mame. I never used a mouse in mame before so I don't know what files I need to edit. Do I need to edit the ini files or what? What do I need to add? Everyone uses a mouse, why the hell can't I?!!!! Oh, yea, I have ver .63

Are you using MAME32? If you are, you need to 'Enable mouse input" in properties.
If you're not using MAME32 then we need to know what version of MAME you're using.

mame.ini file (if you don't have one run mame -createconfig or mame -cc)
then edit it so that mouse = 1

Thanks guys, I never created the config file. Works pretty good now, just needs a little tweaking in analog to get it right. I wish my imperial trackball would spin a little longer though. Seems like it has a whole lot more resistance then the golden tee ones I'm use to in the arcade. Anyone else have this problem or is it just mine?

Its a common complaint. I've heard of replacing the ball with a heftier one or replacing the bearings with ones that spin better. I've also heard just lubing the bearings can make a world of difference.
