Title: Is your trackball scratched?
Post by: Mark70 on November 09, 2005, 10:45:07 am
I noticed some scratches in my trackball.  I have a 3" happ standard white trackball.  The reason I notice the scratches is because it's brand new and was perfectly shiny.  I saw them and thought, how would that look on a translucent ball?

Just wanted to me sure I don't have a jammed bearing or something.  The scratches are very superficial.  Enough to see, but enough to dull the shine on the ball, and not enough to leave an groove in the surface.

I'd guess this is normal wear and tear, but I'd also make sure you don't wear a ring when you play.

I bought what I thought was a "new" translucent blue Happ 3" off of ebay and it has what looks like light scuffing on the ball.  I guess I expected it to be perfectly smooth and free from imperfections.

Should it have been?

I'm thinking about buying another from ponyboy anyway.  Then I can get a new acrylic 3" ball in orange or purple to replace my old one.

All trackballs, are going to scuff from the bearings, this can happen even when its being shipped from spinning, after you have used it 6 months it will have a lot of scuff marks

Same deal here.  I actually bought 2.  The first one was really scuffed and the second still had scratches but only on the ball itself.  My gut feeling is that the buyer was reselling, but the electronics look new and the connectors are new?  Anyone get one from the factory?

If you wanted to get jiggy with it, you could try one of these. 3" =]

Yes, and don't forget about contact juggling balls for inexpensive translucent trackballs.

My trackball had a nearly perfect finish when it arrived.  It was ordered from Happ, through Starburst Coin Machines in Toronto.

The reason I notice the scratches now is because I appreciated how smooth and shinny it was when I took it out of the bubble wrap.

Right, well what I am saying is you can try to find a ball that isn't acrylic if you want it to always be blemish free.

I bought a 3" translucent blue trackball and it had a few scratches on it, fairly deep too but was shipped very well, wrapped in bubble wrap.  I like that 3" crystal ball someone linked, I may try that.
