I not sure how easy it is to get a 8-way pad/joy + handful of buttons layed out so only 1 hand is needed to play games.

I don't know of one, but when the Nintendo Revolution comes out, there will probably be knock-offs of the controller, or maybe an adapter...

The original playstation had a one handed controller. This is before they used analog controls, much less dual analogs. It featured a d-pad on top with 4 buttons underneath that. The bottom had the shoulder buttons accessible with your finger.

I don't see how to do a 1 handed controller now when many games have 2 analog sticks and up to 10 different buttons.

Are you willing to hack something together, or looking for something you can go out and buy?

You'd think the porn industry would have solved this challenge by now.

How about a joystick, like an MS Sidewinder with x and y, but also a twist in the stick for rudder/whatever.  The HAT switch could double as a D-pad.  Numerous additional buttons on the joystick are reachable with one hand.

DOA Xtreme Volleyball, huh?

Why doesn't your "friend" just put it on demo mode?
