I decided to go for it, and I'm very, very happy ;D.

Did you move the brackets from the original monitor, or did you just cut off the threaded part, and drill new holes???

I cut off the threaded part on the bottom brackets. I also had to cut the brackets a little to get it to fit. Now figuring out how to get it to power on.................................................

for power on I am assuming that the screen is coming on in standby mode when you give it mains (if I am wrong ignore the rest)
to get a tv to come out of standby have a look at the mains switch, quite often you will find that there are 6 connections in use (4 big ones for mains + 2 smaller ones) in most switches like this the 2 smaller ones are a second switch that has a momentary action when you press the switch which kicks the tv out of standby mode as you first turn it on (check with a meter for continuity by pressing the switch with mains removed)
if your switch is like this then there is a few ways you can handle it (experiment with them)
1... short the switch (some tv's will power up, others will fire up and then shut down again)
2... put a capacitor across the switch (ensuring you select a suitable value for the voltage present on the switch and matching polarity, this capacitor charges up when the mains is first applied, the charging process appears like a short to the set and makes it act as if the switch has been pressed)
3... run wires from the switch to an external switch on the cabinet (can be a standard arcade switch)

I'm sorry, I phrased that wrong. I need to wire the power on so that I can turn it on from outside the cabinet. The t.v. now runs fine. Thanks for the info though! I am open to ideas on how to wire a volcano button to the actuator switch in the bottom right of the photo.

there will be 4 connections on that switch, 2 on each side,
to activate that switch you should just need to short from one side to the other. the voltages that switch can handle you should be safe to experiment with a short length of wire to find out exactly which pins to link, once you have found the pins attach a wire to each and run tose to you external switch (I am assuming that when you say volcano switch you are meaning a normal arcade type button / switch)

Can you measure the widest part of the de-cased monitor (including the mounts). I have a NEO-GEO cabinet that is 24-3/4" wide. Most commercial 27" monitors are 1/2" too wide to fit.

It is 24"'s exactly from "ear" to "ear". That is the bolt holes for the bracket on the very edge of each.

Got er up and running yet? Just wondering, if it looks pretty good then im yankin my arcade monitor out and using a tv like the one you got. I just didnt know how good the small text on the desktop and stuff like that would look.

Thanks a billion for sharring this, I too am considering doing this now, very well done. Like the other chap said, please post some pics of windows and your front-end so we can check how details look.
As for powering up, I shelled out the $30 and bought a Smart Strip, it's great - powers up my speakers, marquee, and monitor when my PC comes on. But thats just cuz I wouldn't know how to/wouldn't want to do the TV mods or power strip mods found on byoac. I like being alive. :)
(Can I say that after being thrown into the air from taking a shock off my broken Neo-Geo? Meh...)

oops I missread you, the telle doesn't do auto-power on. I was thinking of something else. Hrmph. I'm a lot less temped by this then if it won't auto-power-on.

This is my second cabinet. My first one has a cases 27" flat screen. It does have power on, so the smart strip is great. This one will be no problem to connect a simple microswitch or some other device to power on at the side of the cabinet. I am still in the primer/painting process, so the t.v. is out of the cabinet for now. I can say this, I have been quite happy with S video on my other cabinet. Here is a screenshot of my flat screen. I will post close ups when I get the chance. The major point of this thread was to show that us noobs can do this. I have a million ideas, but I can never find dumb little threads like this to show the obvious, sort of just to double check that the idea is what I thought.(If that makes any sense?!)

I've got to say, the Smart Strip was the best thing I ever bought for my cabinet. I plugged my cabinet into the switch plug, set my mobo to "Restore Power after AC Power Loss", plugged in my speakers, and ran the Smart Strip's plug out of the back of the cabinet. When I turn on the cabinet, the PC powers up and the speakers turn on. Simplest one-switch solution there is.
