Anyone know who this is?
I have a pre-paid cell phone that I use for two things: (1) emergencies (2) contact phone # for all of my domain registrations. Over the last few weeks, I've been getting daily recorded messages from somebody asking me to call 1-800-979-6560.
Some of the messages mention the name "Bill Decker" while others do not, and one of the 12 messages I just erased asked me to call Bill Decker at 1-866-576-1447.
I'm not going to call them from my home phone, because I don't want my home # to be added to their list and I haven't yet called them from my cell phone because I'm not going to waste money on it. I just happened to check my voicemail today for the first time in about a month or so and found all these recorded messages. Anybody else get these from Bill?

I don't know no Bill

A while back I got several calls like that, but from a different person. Most of the messages said it was "not a sales call" and regarding a "business matter".
When I finally got annoyed enought to call back, it was a collection agency looking for someone I never heard of. They took my number off their list.

Name sounds familiar.
Nevermind. I'm thinking of Will Decker

I bet that's it. Since it's my domain registration phone #, I was figuring it was the phone version of all the spam that gets sent to my domain contact email addresses, but since it's a pre-paid phone, I'm sure that other people have had my # in the past and could very easily have been deadbeats.

Did you know that Will Decker was hand-picked by Admiral James T. Kirk to command the U.S.S. Enterprise upon its refitting ca. 2270. But Kirk was on board when the Enterprise was being readied to intercept the V'Ger entity on its way to Earth, and Decker was downgraded to executive officer so Kirk could take the captain's chair.

Don't you have caller-ID block in your area? In my area, I pick up the phone, dial *67, and then after the funny-sounding dial tone, I simply finish dialing the number I wish to call.
It shows up on their end as something like "Unknown number" or "Private call/number"....something like that.
I'd call their toll-free number from your house, since it costs them when you call, rather than spend a dime trying to figure out why the heck the guy is calling you. Before giving them ANY information, I'd first find out what the company is, what their mailing address is, and who you are speaking to. After getting all of that information, THEN start tracking down who/what/why you keep getting calls. If need be, go to OfficeMax/OfficeDepot and see if they have some pre-setup documents for stuff like this (oddly enough, they have stuff like divorce papers, rental agreements, wills, etc). Send them a nice kiss my arse letter to the address you were given.

So are you saying quarterback should send divorice papers to Bill...

I actually started getting calls ever night at the same time for probably a month now. From JBC legal group. It says " This is not a sales call this message is concerning a personal buisiness matter. Please contact JBC legal group at such and such number." I have found out that they are a debt collection agency that likes to rip people off. They have been sued by 3 or 4 states already for agressive collections or something like that. I am waiting to buy some recording equipment so I can record my converstations w/ them once I decide to contact them. Then if that doesn't work I will send them a cease and deciest letter.
They make their money from saying people have a debt to some company that your not in debt to. Then they try and bully you into paying them saying they are going to sue and all that fun stuff.

Exactly the same happened to me. When I finally got POed enough to call back, I managed to get them to stop calling me.

Drewkaree:
I think that if you call an 800 number, the call block doesn't work.

If youre going to call them, call them from a payphone. Its a 1-800 number so you won't have to pay anything for it. And they won't gey your phone # either.

I'm not sure that's true anymore. There's a payphone 'surcharge' for 800#s these days.
EDIT: Hmmm... or will "Bill Decker" have to pay that surcharge? It's been a while since the 800 surcharge was added so I can't remember how it works, but if I can rack up some charges for Mr. Decker, I'd have no issues with that whatsoever...
And they won't gey your phone # either.
Aggghhh! They're going to give my phone teh gey!?!?!?
:D
