Just curious to know why people go to TinyURL to encode their long URL's instead of justusing smf code for it.
It isn't obvious in the UI but you can do it within your post and not have to go to TinyURL.

Just curious is all.

it's better for e-mails and stuff. you know sometimes really long URLs get cut off and when you click them they only register half the URL?
I don't know why people use it here.
-
I don't think everyone knows that little trick. I didn't know it when I first started posting here, but picked it up somewhere along the way. If thats the case, I am sure your post will enlighten some.

HEY! I clicked that link and nothing happened...Wadaya trying to pull here fella :police:
;)
Actually, some do not know how to do that here....
-
The main reason people use it here it to disguise the link. Usually it's to trick you into clicking a link that you wouldn't have otherwise. A lot of sick dasies here. ;)

So does the smf code, especially if the link for some reason has @ or odd characters in it.

That's it.
I mean, who would ever click on a link that contained the words "huge ass zit?"

I use TinyURL mostly out of habit.
I post at various other boards that do actually require the use of such a service.
-
I use the code like Jabba showed

I hate you.

Sometimes you're limited to the amount of characters you can use, like in your signature for example. A huge URL would use up all your sig, even more so if your hyperlinking it to some text. With a TinyURL you can use all those extra characters for bacon flavoured cheesecake and such and such.

Those folks that don't understand that making a link that widens your browser page to some ungodly width and requires a side-scroll aren't the ones who are using TinyURL. If they can understand one thing, they certainly can understand the other, and vice versa.
In my case, I'll give you the top reason. Firefox extensions.
Firefoxeseseses (did I spell that right?) TinyURL extension makes a simple right click on the page I want to link to pop up the little options menu and I don't have to do anything other than select "create TinyURL" and copy it.
It all depends on if I'm feeling DK-slack that particular day, or Stingray-slackTM. If it's the latter, there's no telling how it'll end up being posted.

Why did I talk like that? Beacuse when I posted that last night, according to The Drink Wheel (link coming) at

I was at a .14 :P

I usually post something like, "Oh man, I saw something cool online the other day, you know the site I'm talking about". No linking required.

I thought saint already removed that link.
