Looks cool, if it works i'm sure they will sell a ton.
But is it really necessary at this point? I thought the PSP was hacked. Sure you have to downgrade to 1.50 but I guess. But you can make it look like its 2.1 and still run all the normal games....
whats the advantage of this?

the way i understand this is the modchip acts like a switch. you can have a perfctly normal psp, updated to any new features that sony allows, and then switch it to homebrew mode which allows access to all code regardless of firmware.

you can do that currently though, without having to take apart your PSP.

not with the 2.01 firmware, or most likely future firmware upgrades that mayoffer cooler free features. Also, with a programmable mod device, teh possibility of running code easier plays into it.
As of right now you can play most games without upgrading your firmware but as most games come out that require mandatory upgrades, you have to choose wheather to play games or run homebrew. with this solution, you dont have to worry about it
