Title: Tempest - Sideart Restoration
Post by: johnvv on October 31, 2005, 08:12:50 pm
I have a Tempest cab with damaged sideart and a number of holes drilled into the side.  I am planning on restoring and have acquired a set of unused Tempest sideart made by the good folks at Phoenix Arcade.

What is the best way to prep the side of the cab for the new art?  I was thinking of:

1. remove old art
2. sand smooth
3. fill holes with Bondo, repair nicks and gouges
4. more sanding
5. apply a coat or two or primer (Killz)
6. last round of sanding
7. clean and apply art

Or is this overkill for sideart?  I'm guessing that I need a nice smooth surface - just as if I were going to paint the sides.

I'll start by saying that I really don't know... but my common sense is telling me that there's maybe no point in priming? It really depends on how thick the sideart is. It would really suck of the old art was visible THROUGH the new art.

Sounds good to me. That's basicall what I did for my defender cab. In this hobby... not much can be considered overkill.
